Legalize it ?

I'd like to hear some arguments for and against legalization of marijuana.

I have personally never tried it, and I have no intention to do so. But I can't seem to understand why it's still illegal.

Ditto. It seems to me that marijuana is less dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol, and certainly less addictive. It probably will be legalized eventually, as it is already legal in some parts of Nevada and Colorado. I think you have to be 21+ and can only possess only up to a certain amount. It would be great for farmers to get to start growing and selling it again.
That's what she said.

I don't smoke it, but I have plenty of friends who do, and many of which graduated college with me. I have no problem with it being legal. I would much rather have high drivers than drunk drivers. High people are more apt to wait for the stop sign to turn green...haha

But seriously, if it comes from the earth, it's more than likely OK.

I don't think that's a very solid argument. Mercury and lead come from the earth, and those are both bad.

your comment about waiting for the stoplight to turn green made me laugh out loud, and I almost sprayed coffee all over my monitor.

I don't smoke, but I watched Super High Me the other day and it made me want to move to California and become a full-time pot head.

If they legalized weed the government could tax it like they tax cigarettes... wait... is that a reason for or against legalizing it?

That is the age old conundrum. People who smoke and also people who dont for the most part agree that its way way less dangerous than many legal items on the market. The main problem is there are way too many people out there that still believe the gateway drug hype. One thing i always found odd about that observation was that they always ask your dope heads and what not "Did you try marijuana before trying heroin" but there never seems to be anyone saying "Did you also try alcohol before trying heroin". I'd say that pretty much most of the hard drug users would also agree to having drank before trying hard drugs.

Here is my main argument for all the naysayers. Most people against it also argue that if we legalize it our kids will get their hands on it, but convenience stores card people so as not to sell tobacco or alcohol to minors, drug dealers don't.

I used to be quite the aficionado years and years ago, but I haven't gone near it in quite some time. Not because I'm all anti...far from it. Sometimes I want to, sometimes I don't. I'm just not in that crowd anymore, so it's a non-issue.

That out of the way, I COMPLETELY support legalization. If you do some easy research, it was criminalized in the early 20th century as a part of a larger political move, nothing more.

Marijuana has been classified by the federal government as non-addictive. You simply can not get addicted to pot. Also, no one has EVER died from pot, because you can't OD on it. Sure, there are idiots who drive stoned, and they died in a wreck, but the WEED didn't kill them.

Reasons to legalize:

~ Dealers will be forced out of business, which means many will get real jobs, and pay real taxes.
~The product will be regulated, quality control standards will be in place, and the cases of laced pot will decrease.
~Taxes will be collected.
~Prohibition has never worked, historically. This is no different.

I'm obviously not advocating the use of marijuana by anyone under 21. It would have to be regulated exactly like alcohol, and the same penalties for driving stoned would be in place.

Think pot is a killer? Take a look at those "anti-weed" commercials. Not one of them tells you how marijuana will harm you. They all highlight people making bad CHOICES and doing things while they're high. Driving, babysitting, etc. None of those things should be done after smoking.

But if you want to smoke a joint some night around a campfire, who cares?

And for those of you citing various state laws legalizing - remember, federal law trumps it. So even if a state allows it, you're breaking federal laws. Why state's have the right to control cigarettes and alcohol, but not pot, is a completely different debate.

The one thing that is interesting about the alcohol vs. weed argument is that alcohol is processed in the human body like a food and marijuana is processed like a poison.

No alcohol is processed like a poison as well, thats where the liver comes in, its just the rest of the stuff in your drink of choice gets processed like a food.

You could make the exact same argument for hash brownies

The first time I tried weed, I was 32. It is very relaxing but, but makes me very horny. I can't drive with it either. I have MS and it helps with the pain that I have. I wouldn't mind it being legalized. I'd have great sex and be pain free.

Are you sure thats because of the weed and not because youre a human with a sex drive? i know thats what usually does it to me. As for the pain thing, yeah its wonderful for that, even lowscale. I'm not even going to try to compete with MS, but it has definitely helped me from something as small as a minor headache all the way up to a dislocated knee. I still have sympathy pains for myself on that one, bad memories of flying off the skateboard going down a flight of 20 stairs and landing on my left knee. The only thing more painful than dislocating it was them re-locating it haha.

Legalize it! I don't smoke it anymore, I used to smoke it a lot in high school, but then I stopped for certain reasons.

Pot doesn't make you angry, violent, do things you don't remember and so on. It just chills you out. You drive better and your senses are heightened, it makes you hungry and sleepy and you get a weird feeling in your head. That's IT. You don't go out and kill people or beat people, no one has ever heard of such as case. However; alcohol makes people do such things. Alcohol is much worse than marijuana.

Watch Reefer Madness, back in the day, pot was made out to be this killer drug that was evil and made you do terrible things. A lot of people were smoking it, not just kids. Society was about to change dramatically, and the government didn't like that. It created this giant fear of marijuana that is still here today. There's not much to be afraid of, it's a plant. Cigarettes have thousands of chemicals, pot has few.

Legalizing it would put a stop to a lot of illegal smuggling; however, I think it would be hard to regulate because it can be grown so easily. Another hard thing about it is if it is legalized, control on harsher drugs such as cocaine would be harder because of less control on illegal smuggling.

It would reduce crime. Think about it, no dealers on the street (unless they are dealing cocaine or crack, which would be easy to tell what they are up to because most deal marijuana) , no shootings because someone ripped someone off, people would just chill out and I think crime would drop.

Those are just some opinions, take it easy on me, it's 4:30am, I'm getting ready for work and it's hard to wake up Tongue.

I don't advocate driving high at all. The same restrictions that are on alcohol should be in place for weed.

And as for high sex - wahwah weewah.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss high driving. I would suggest a lot more reasearch to be done. While not a scientific study, this video does provide more than enough reason to actually have said research done. Enjoy bitches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3zou4F00Ic

How the hell is it an attack when I question something you say? I can't help it that you make comments that are so out there that I ask you to clarify your stance.

You say that 70% of American oil comes from Alaska, I ask you to back it up with some sort of proof. Not an attack. You say that the one phone message guy either has a big ego or is a murderer, I question if it's possible that he lie somewhere in the middle. Again, not an attack.

If it seems like I pick on comments you make, it's because so far most of the comments you've made have been completely absurd to me.

As for why I asked if you condone driving a car while high. You even said in your first post in this thread:

Kate Wrote:Pot doesn't make you angry, violent, do things you don't remember and so on. It just chills you out. You drive better and your senses are heightened,

I'm not sure about anybody else, but that sure as shit sounds like you are saying that it's ok to drive while stoned on weed.

You said it, I asked you to clarify if that is indeed what you meant. That's not a fricking attack on you. Grow some thicker skin.
