Why not have an in studio camera like ESPN on Mike & Mike, watch it via that fancey info-net or on the picture box?

Definitely possible through free sites like www.ustream.tv and www.mogulus.com.

However, I imagine the affiliates would get mad as it would mean advertising $$ lost.

Mike & Mike in the morning on ESPN 2 seems to get good reviews, plus watching those idiots would make me laugh even harder then just listening.
