Obama's stimulus package
#41
I don't know why they are spending money for birth control. You can already get it for free at the clinic... or atleast they used to give it out for free.

And bloody hell, I already spend. That is why I only have a dollar in my wallet until I get paid this afternoon...

*Some* Economists say the bubble of the last decade (or so) was unnatural and was bound to burst. I wouldn't mind tax cuts as long as they lower the payroll taxes because that would give me the illusion of making more money than a rebate. None of it's really going to help me. Either way I'll go to work, go home, and pay my bills. The only thing that would help me is if I got a letter in the mail from the government saying they would forgive the student loans I had to take out for my unfinished education.

But I would rather have people work for money than receive unemployment or welfare, even though that's how a lot of people are getting by, and that sucks. I don't think that idea is too socialistic. Sadly, out of the 5 people in my family, I work, my dad's retired, my mom's laid off for another month from her job, and neither of my siblings have jobs, except my brother is in the National Guard. I'm still waiting for my parents to ship my sister off to the Army. They take care of her kids most of the time anyways (because she's "job-hunting").

But you really didn't need Dave Ramsey to tell you that. Most people know what to do, and how they got where they are. I could work 3 jobs and never see my family......

I am sure his plan does work. If he is so great, why not help these sheep for free? He obviously has enough money to live on for the rest of his life.

Actually, you are correct because I got the second job before I started listening to Ramsey. However, once I started listening he taught me how to snowball the debt and that's when it all clicked.
Go fuck yourself. Hard.

I can't wait until he fixes our nation and makes every single person who judged him based on his first EIGHT days shuts up

just give him a chance? he was gonna fix EVERYTHING in the first day - thats pretty much all i ever heard. are the troops home yet? a little louder please - i can't hear your answer.... ???

Socialized health care doesn't bother me so much, because either way I'll be spending money on healthcare. Especially when they decide the money will come from raising taxes on cigarettes and alcohol. That's a double whammy.

It's probably cheaper to get all females' tubes tied when they're young and undo them when they can prove they would be financially and emotionally capable of supporting a child than to pay days/months/years worth of birth control.

We should go ahead and install telescreens in their house while we're at it. Holy shit.

the bottom line of all of this is sickening. there is no way that anything is going to truely change until the shitheads(all of them...dems and repubs) are gone. i wish there was a movement started of average, honest, resonably educated american to create a party, and retake america for the rest of us average citizens. As a servicemember, it makes me completely sick to sit around and watch as the Govt I help defend bends over and Effs it citizens in the ass every day so that the people who are supposed to represents us pockets' get a little deeper. sucks that there is almost nothing we can do about it. we all bitch, and nothing changes. we put a new pres in office, and the same pork barreled bullshit bill come out of the "new" house and senate. they dont give a Eff about any of us. totally sickening.

I did not vote in the Presidential category. I was too disgusted with both pres candidates. I did take the poll FBHW talked about and i was a split between both obama and mccain, damne near exact percentage. Im not biased against obama for any reason. im just honest fearful that this is the new smokescreen. the same fear tactics as before with new ways of saying them and about different topics. before it was the war, now its the economy. its the same old washington politics.

Until people (like you) start voting for third party candidates, there will be no change. How do you expect to "get rid" of dems and reps if you don't do anything about it? You have no right to bitch about change if you don't take action.

so i guess since i abstained from only the pres category, i have no right to bitch?

For me i chose not to vote for the other candidates because i had not had an oppurtunity to hear their message and did not want to be the a-hole that voted with no knowledge, like suprisingly most americans did.

its truyl scary that the people who drive this country are drunk off money behind the wheel. they are spending this "stimulus" money.... aka: money we dont even have.... like its a giant Effing xmas present they just stumbled into. what this amounts to for me is that we have a new pres in office, and every single politician is trying to get every single one of their pet projects lumped into this "miracle" bill to satisfy their lobbyists and keep them in office. they see obama as an open door of spending, and are going to end up riding it until the dollar is completely worthless. then they will turn on obama and blame him for reckless spending policies, and ride those arguements to the next election, the same way they did hile tearing down bush on his way out the door. (not that im a bush fan, jsut using it as a point of reference)

I do commend you on not voting when you don't know the issues, but that is your own fault. You had weeks, if not months, leading up to the election to learn about who is running, and who to vote for.

your missing the overall point. and that is this:

the promises of change and great new goverment are instead overspending on the same bullshit as before, greater goverment oversight(leading right down the road to socialism, if not communism) the getting richer while poor get poorer. all the "change we can beleive in" is nothing but a punchline now. things like proposing a new 15000 tax break for those who buy a home, but when you have to have a credit rating above 720 to even get a meeting with a bank(who wont use those billions of $$$ to lend money, the whole Effing reason they got it), then only those who arent already hurting are going to buy a home. this is uspposed to help those who are hurting. luckily im not one of those people at the moment, but for those that are this is a giant kick in the balls.

You're missing my point. It will always be the same bullshit as before until us Americans change something. I believe that the biggest problem is the two party system. It's always "Us vs. Them" If you throw in a third party, it would be impossible harder to do the party lines thing, because you can't be against two parties at the same time.... "Democrats vote no, Republicans vote yes, but I'm an Independent, so I better vote..... ummm.... maybe?"

the only way it would ever work is a group of people from alll over the country started a movement, and come election time had enough support to suddenly win majority.

it will never happen, and it truyl disgusts me to watch things go on the way that they do right now.

all this talk about the people, and nobody truly gives a Eff. the news media is just looking for the most interesting "BAD" news to report about any of them, not really finding out any truth.

i dont think we need a change in style of government, just the Effing dickheads that are in it.

hotzester Wrote:Back to the topic at hand, why wouldn't taking all of this money that the government wants to spend on the bailout, and turn it into a small business/entrepreneurship grant fix things?

This would encourage those with the entrepreneurial spirit to take the giant step, thus reducing a good portion of the unemployed citizenship. It would also generate tax revenue in the form of self-employment and small business tax. Plus, it would give those who run the businesses capital to invest in products they need for their business, which stimulates the retail sector, creating more demand for jobs in those businesses.

I remember during the Clinton admin. they handed out money to a LOT of small businesses but a lot of people opened up shop.. could not compete for one reason or another.. and then shut down. I had seen a lot of this with friends and family members who took advantage of this free govt money for businesses. People can start businesses now no problem .. I do not think this will do much.
We need to put money towards things we know that work and POLICE IT!! but not with a lot govt. red tape.. maybe a private sector to be the one the govt should invest in when policing.

I think you are right. I think we need to add in that you cannot run for politics if you have ever made more than 200,000 a year (as a household including gifts and kickbacks)
Also I think that every politician should be tax audited YEARLY to make sure they paid and paid everything.
Then they could have had no ethical or moral black clouds above their head.
Then they need a credit check too.
Oh and this party that these super politicians belong to must be called the common sense party.

Then we need to change the government. Bigger local government would be better. Then if an issue is raised. then we can vote for it locally.. everyone has the chance to vote. I would love this current stimulus package to be broken down into pieces and put on a piece of paper in front of me in a voting booth.
The whole national government was ok back in the day when we were a smaller country but now you have a group of people that speak for everyone?!! not fair!!

enough ranting for me I must rest ..

So you want someone who has no tax problems, makes less than 200k AND has good credit? Good luck with that!

I don't think you can put a dollar amount on a good politician. Salary and ability to lead aren't mutually exclusive. Secondly, you're just saying "politician". The primary definition of "politician" is "a leader engaged in civil administration". You've just put a pre-election salary cap on the POTUS, the governor, the state assemblyman, the school board, the sheriff, the dog catcher, and any other elected official.

I know plenty of brilliant minds who make more than 200k and even more jackoffs who make less.

I'm originally against this stimulus package, but the republicans did something to it that directly effects me. They've added a home buyers tax credit. Since my wife and I are actively in the market for a house right now I'm liking this stimulus package. The new tax credit gives home buyers (not just first time but any home buyer) 10% of the home cost up to $15,000 and you don't have to pay it back. This is different from the $7500 first time home buyers credit that is available until June of this year in which you had to pay back interest free for the next 17 years. That will go away if the stimulus package gets passed. So now I kind of like the stimulus package even though some of the other pork belly bs sucks.

I wish people would quit referring to it as a stimulus package. It's not. It's a government spending bill. I think I've got a better idea, but I'm sure there's something wrong with it.. so feel free to point it out.

If you want to truly stimulate the economy, why would they not simply send every American who paid income tax (I wouldn't even consider giving it to anyone who didn't.. that's effing ridiculous) a check for like five grand, tax free. (I got 5 grand by taking the number of filers (approx 138 million) from 2006 (most recent stats) and dividing 789 billion (proposed stimulus) by 138 million). Even if people use it to pay off current debt, you know it's only a matter of time before they start buying shit again.. It's the American way. Or they might just spend it as soon as they get the check. Is there something here that makes this completely undoable? I think it'd be worth looking into.

it just wouldn't be a long term fix, as good as it sound the stimulus checks that were given out last year didn't put a dent in the problem.

My problem is that the government thinks that IT is the solution, that they know exactly what to do to get us out of the mess that they put us in. There are studies that show that if the government had kept their grubby hands out of things during the Great Depression, then it would have lasted a shorter time by about seven years.
The economy will naturally cycle, but they make things worse by interveining.

And Cuppie, just because they are going to give you a little with this "spending bill", they will probably cause you more problems in the end. They just gave a little to sucker you in.

Anyone else notice that not one of those who are voting today could have possibly read it?

The stat I heard was that if one were to have started reading all 1, 073 pages the moment it was issued, you'd have to read 2 1/2 pages per minute, consistently, to get to the end of it by the time it's voted on. So essentially, many (dare I say ALL) of them are voting blindly.

VOTE AGAINST ANYONE, REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT, WHO VOTES THIS IN!

Hotzester. They ALL voted blindly. They receive whatever bill is to be voted on; they take it to their office workers/aides and divide it among them (u read this much, this person will read this much, and so on) they read it and give "cliffs notes" back. Pretty much what happens.

Earlier in this thread someone said that the bullshit stimulus package had 30 million set aside to "SAVE THE EFFIN SWAMP MOUSE"!!!! You've gotta be kidding me! WE have homeless people/ families hungry with children out on the streets, we have people losing their jobs, we have people that cannot afford health care and the list goes on and on; and these M-EFFERS wanna save an effin mouse that's gonna be snake and owl food and wind up a pile of bones and fur in someones back yard anyways?!?!

For EFFS sakes people: when are we gonna say "THATS ENOUGH BULLSHIT! EFF THE SWAMP MOUSE, SORRY ETHIOPIA NO RICE AND BEANS FOR AWHILE WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN!!!!!!!"

No, it won't solve the problem.. No one-step program will. But this is five thousand, not a few hundred bucks. There's a big difference. I would think it could at least provide a small stopgap in the avalanche of debt.. People might free up some more money they otherwise wouldn't.. and isn't that part of the solution?
