What's Going on in this world?

I am attempting to start this thread for people to post links to news stories that you don't usually hear on cable, but might be important information. You can post links to articles, but tell a little about them so people can decide to read them or not.

My first post is about massive amounts of kidnappings in Phoenix AZ.

I was listening to NPR the other day and they were talking about how prevelant gang-rape is in Thailand. Does that count?

yep, sure. This thread can be local violence, economic stuff, war stuff, whatever. Just basically, one place to hold links and articles that people wouldn't normally hear about. Especially if they only spend their time watching who will win the next American Idol. I just thought that people should be informed instead of being naive (nave).

Sadly, I think it's the same. As I told Imray, I have to look at medical records all the time and if they were computerized there would be less eff ups. I would be happy with that.

I agree, computerizing would be easier, and more accurate, and my old Dr's office in FL was completely computerized. I think that making them so that the Federal Gov. has access and control, makes me cautious. They can help the situation by making it easier for the office to upgrade, but it doesn't need to be something they need their dirty little fingers in.

VA has one of the most beautiful medical records system I have ever seen. Everything is so nice and orderly and all I have to do is read them and file them, no sorting involved.

Electronic records are nice, my company has just started the process of going digital, and I've slowly become one of the point-people in it. However, the numbers I was seeing floating around earlier, something like $2 million per hospital, aren't nearly enough to do a good job of going digital. One local hospital where I live has already pumped well over $10 million into their transition, and their job isn't even done.

VA as in Veteran's Affairs? Nice records? HA! They have been awful in all my experiences with them.

They've been great when I've received records from them (VA-Nashville, anyways).

well first off, thank you for reassuring me that I am not the only one listening to NPR Smile

secondly, you can always find links to the NPR reports on npr.org I know most of the shows link to the file of the report and even have a written version of the report on their sites.

Facebook terms of service? Most people don't read these things, they just check the box and "accept". Maybe I'll read them from now on.

The video on this is annoying, but an interesting thing to look into.

I want health insurance/care to be more like car insurance- separate from your job, you get it, you pay for it, it's yours wherever you go. I do like my United HealthCare's web access to absolutely everything- prescriptions, claims, and everything are all online to keep track of and my doctors can share info and view things there as well which is nice.

That beheading was horrible but it does show how the wool has been pulled over the world's eyes when it comes to Islam, which is totalitarian rule disguised as a religion. There is no peace involved until non-Islam peoples are all dead or converted. The two absolutes of Islam are 1)The Quran is Allah's word and is absolute and 2)Mohammad is the ideal to be modeled after (awesomely he was a murderous pedophile). The violence, goal of world domination, and human rights violations aren't a stereotype, it's the scary truth and Sharia Law is on its way of taking over Europe as we speak. People speak of "moderate moslems"- that don't actually exist! If they're "moderate" they inherently aren't practicing Islam. If only they would speak/act out more against this BS, but then again, they'd then be marked for dead.

USA is donating $900 million to help rebuild Gaza. It makes sense cause they will need something to destroy in a year or so and they will need fresh buildings and such. I'm glad we have so much money to toss around.

Too bad it doesn't really work that way or we wouldn't have to worry about little things like the national debt...
