| O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00  | Hunting: Good or Bad Guns: Good or Bad I have no problem with controlled hunting. Because of a lack of natural predators, hunting is the only way left to control animal populations. Would you prefer introducing wolves into the woods behind your house in Jersey or upstate? I think guns should be licensed the exact same way cars are. A person who wants to own a gun should have to take a course and take a test to ensure they know how to correctly use, clean, and store a firearm so the kids don't get to it. And just as there are licenses for cars, trucks, limos, etc. there could be licenses for handguns, rifles, assault rifles, gun collecting, license to carry etc. with a class and test for every level. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Apr. 01 | why do we need to hunt to control animal populations? they did just fine before we got here. that is merely the phrase that people use when they encroach on animal habitats and dont like the results. as for classes and such, i agree with that for people who live in isolated areas and need them for protection or for people who deal with large amounts of valuables in thier business. otherwise , no one needs a gun. But I give Ted Nugent a lot of credit for doing it the right way. It takes balls to only eat what you kill. I can respect his views. | ||||

Animal populations are no longer naturally controlled because the predators have all been killed off or had their populations reduced to the point that they do not kill enough prey to have an effect on population. Why? because settlers, ranchers, trappers, and hunters in the early days killed them without thought. And noone wants their numbers to increase and possibly endanger some person. 2. People in large population areas face more threats than people in isolated areas. Why? Because the threat is other people. More people = more threats. 3. Guns are also fun to collect and are also used for a HOBBY. Some people go to a firing range just for the fun of putting holes in a paper target at 30 feet. | Hanger-On Registered: Apr. 01 | I have never been hunting, but I do enjoy shooting. I have a 7mm Remington Mag that I like to shoot at the range now and then. Shooting is a very relaxing activity. To hit a small target at several hundred yards away takes a great deal of skill and concentration. There are breathing techniques you must use to maintain your concentration and hands to keep the rifle still. Less than 2-3 millimeters of barrel movement equals a huge miss at 200+ yards. Now, as for hunting, I am a firm believer in it. The majority of today's hunters are men and women who enjoy the outdoors and have a general concern for animal population control. Anoyone who is against animal control via hunting and has hit a deer with their car - YOU FUCKING DESERVED IT! I have seen several dead deer on my way to work each day. Not on back roads either - Route 1 in NJ. Dickwads who hunt with AK-47s are not real hunters. The AK-47 is not very accurate past 100 yards - if that. A good hunter shouldn't need more than one shot to bring down anything. Granted, there are some real kooks in the NRA, but the second amendment "A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed" clearly states that the people if this country have the right to bear arms. What you really need to ask yourself is, why doesn't this country's governing officials ENFORCE the laws they already have regarding illegal gun use instead of making new laws they will continue to not enforce? allyourbasearebelongtous  | ||||
