| I am just finishing up Black Jack the biography of Black Jack (John J.) Pershing. I just got done reading Lawrence the Uncrowned King of Arabia & Truman. I'm on a big biography kick now, though I breezed through Luciano's Luck by Jack Higgins on the 4th of July.

| I've been in the French buzz for about 2 years now... I'm reading Cyrano de Bergerac ((almost done)) and Les Miserables is on the table.
But right now I'm stuck on Catch-22.
((For the record -- Sorry, I REALLY don't like that band [Catch-22 Tools]-- the one guy is now a band teacher at the high school))
My Drinking Days are... less, but not over ((but no drinking at board functions))
But I'm getting to be a "good" lil girl!

| Hey Ikea-
"Lot 49" was so fucking sick. What an incredible piece of writing. Thanks for bringing it up, you sure brought a smile to my face tonight!!
& b4 I forget- the Dune series, by Frank, and then his son James, Herbert-incredible, speculative, futuristic Sci-Fi-writing-
Seriously, none more gooder.
At the point I just gave up reading the "Dune" series out of sheer exhaustion a few years ago, I believe there were 8 books in the series. So amazing..
I canot stress this enough...

Jeeez...leave it to Claire to bring up the author I'm reading right now (dated), Bill Bryson's, A Walk in the Woods. Detailed, very funny journal- type of book about a man's goal to walk the whole length of the Appalachian (sp) Trail. Great, light stuff.
Ahhh...Heinlein. Check out, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress...I couldn't put it down recently. Puppet Masters was good, too...oh, and so was Number of the Beast...and so was...

Anyway:
Good Self Help:How to get your Point across in 30 seconds
Good Biography: Chesty Puller
Good Fiction:Try Nelson DeMille. Being from Long Island one associates with a lot of the references and he is funny.

I actually didn't like that book. I thought it was nothing compared to 1984. Anyone else agree?

| Have to agree with you there Wounded Angel. I thought F451 is too overrated, not that great and not nearly equaling 1984 in characters, concepts, deepness, subtlety, characters, etc. When I read Fahrenheit I wasn't impressed, when I read 1984 it was really one of those books that affects you.
I haven't read Traumanovelle though I own it in a double book thing along with the script to Eyes Wide Shut.

| OK, I put The Great & Secret Show on hold because my bf's brother just lent me an amazing book, and I don't even really read nonfiction very often:
It's call Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock..totally rewriting history and civilization as we know it, finding evidence of a lost advanced human civilization 13,000 years ago, possibly settled in Antarctica
quote:
While I may not be qualified to establish whether Hancock's theories are a revolutionary rediscovery of our past or just an interesting alternative interpretation, I can tell you that this book makes very interesting reading. It is not presented as a grand conspiracy theory, nor do I feel that Hancock is trying to justify a particular ideology. Instead, Hancock takes the reader on an exploration of a number of historical oddities - interesting phrases from ancient Incan writings about fires in the sky, ancient maps that precisely detail hidden parts of Antarctica and other possible explanations for the Atlantis mythos. He does not present any outrageous claims that earth was invaded by aliens or that Egyptians were an industrial civilization, however, he does present a fair amount of material for consideration by his readers to form their own opinions. In many cases, he admits not have the answers just questions that can not be answered by established "scientific facts".
Behind every good man there is a woman, and that woman was Martha Washington man, and everyday George would come home, she would have a big fat bowl waiting for him, man when he come in the door, man she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.

| If you want to read something that will freak you out. Read "fast food nation". You might heard about back. ONCE YOU READ THIS YOU WILL NEVER EAT AT A FAST FOOD AGAIN!
If you read "The Jungle" by Uptown Sinclair. You will feel just as sick.
I also read "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbra Enrnrich. The author decides to work as a waitress, maid, wal mart associtate, and a hotel housekeeper. She moves to three diffrent cities trying to surrive only on those min wage jobs with out using her savings revealing what she really does, writing.
Very interesting commenatary.
Does any know of any more good investigative jouralism books.

WAngel, Traumnovelle is really nothing special. If you've seen Eyes Wide Shut, you've virtually read the book - Kubrick transferred the story to the screen almost exactly (unlike The Shining), except he made it modern day. It's an extremely short book that's only worth reading if you enjoyed the film.
