3-2 yankees in 12....Further proof that God really is a Yankee fan :) :) :)

I have this dream of being whole, of not going to sleep each night wanting. But sometimes when the wind is warm and the crickets sing, I dream of a love that even time will lie down and be still for. I just want someone to love me, I want to be seen.

I can't believe these guys did it again. Anthony's CIA theory must have some validity.

Holy shit!! That poor little chinaman is going to kill himself tonight...I seriously hope he doesn't...we need him to pitch :)

Assuming we win, who is your pick for MVP?

FMFB, I agree. I viewed him on the mound after the home run, and thought he was about to cry. I initially felt bad for him, but then thought, "sorry pal, but you suck." And once he entered the game, I just knew the Yanks had a very good shot at winning.

Now, now. Don't get ahead of yourself here. It's still not over. The Yanks still have to beat either Johnson or Schilling. Tough task but one they should be able to do.

Saturday's Headline Today: "Arizona closer thrown from plane"

Did you see his face after the Brosius shot? I don't think he was this disappointed when they told him that they were killing him off on MASH.

But there's also this: there are over 5,000 men in this city, who know that being a policeman is an endless, glamourless, thankless job that's gotta be done.

I know it, too, and I'm damn glad to be one of them."

Who will be pitching for the Yanks in games six and seven, respectively, the latter if necessary - Pettitte and Clemens? I agree, it will not be easy.

Okay, maybe it's the time, but I'm perplexed as to the meaning of "Arizona closer thrown from plane."

Lastly, the only reaction from Kim that would have been worse was if he was told his Visa expired right after he retired the side in a nondescript inning.

You just answered the question, "that poor little chinaman." ;)

Jeter, though hitting .143 in the series, would be my pick. But like OJF said, there is a lot of baseball to be played yet.

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- If the Arizona Diamondbacks did not believe there was aura around the three-time defending champion New York Yankees, they do now.

Rookie Alfonso Soriano's single with one out in the 12th inning scored Chuck Knoblauch with the game-winning run as the Yankees pieced together another miracle comeback and defeated the Diamondbacks, 3-2, in Game Five of the World Series.

Left for dead three days ago, the Yankees are just one win away from becoming just the third team to win four straight World Series titles. But New York's 19th win in 22 World Series games and 10th straight at home was another for the ages.

One night after Tino Martinez homered with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning off Byung-Hyun Kim to erase a two-run deficit, Scott Brosius became the latest hero.

With the Diamondbacks holding a 2-0 lead, Arizona manager Bob Brenly turned to Kim to start the ninth. Jorge Posada opened the inning with a double but the Korean sidearmer easily retired the next two batters.

Brosius, just 3-for-16 in the series to that point, crushed a 1-0 pitch into the left-field seats to knot the game.

If Wednesday's crowd was ecstatic, Thursday's was deafening as Brosius circled the bases. Kim, 22, who has surrendered three devastating homers in a span of 24 hours, dropped to a crouch and appeared to start crying on the mound as teammates consoled him.

Brenly went to 42-year-old former Yankee Mike Morgan, who got Soriano to end the inning. The Yankees turned to postseason ace Mariano Rivera in the 10th, who nearly turned the game over to the Diamondbacks in the 11th.

Danny Bautista opened with a single and took second on a bloop hit by Erubiel Durazo. After slugger Matt Williams sacrificed, Steve Finley was intentionally walked. With the bases loaded and one out, Reggie Sanders hit a liner up the middle that was gloved by Soriano. Mark Grace grounded out to third.

In the 12th, Arizona went to 19-game loser Albie Lopez (0-1), who surrendered a leadoff single to Knoblauch, his first hit in 14 at-bats in the series.

Brosius sacrificed and Soriano followed with a single to right field. Catcher Rod Barajas could not handle Sanders' short-hop throw and the Yankees poured out of the dugout to mob Knoblauch.

The series shifts to Arizona for Game Six. The Diamondbacks will start Randy Johnson while the Yankees counter with Andy Pettitte.

The late-inning heroics overshadowed a phenomenal performance by Arizona starter Miguel Batista. Bypassed for the start in Game Four, Batista tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings. He scattered five hits and five walks, striking out six.

Yankees starter Mike Mussina nearly was as good. The veteran righthander allowed five hits -- including a pair of solo home runs in the fifth -- in eight innings. He walked three and struck out 10.

One of the two solo homers hit in the fifth came off the bat of little-used backup Barajas. When starter Damian Miller was a late scratch with a strained right calf, Barajas -- a .160 hitter in the regular season -- was inserted into the lineup.

With the game scoreless in the fifth, Finley opened the inning with a homer to right, his first career postseason homer. Mussina got the next two batters but Barajas clubbed a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left for a 2-0 lead.

That lead stood until the ninth, when Brosius' eighth career postseason homer tied the game.

I meant that they would throw him off the plane on the way back to Arizona. Lame joke I know. I'm sorry.

NASA, shouldn't you be working on the current Mars expedition?

Now Opie has two things to be pissed about. Kim entering the game and Morgan lifted for Lopez. Who in god's name is the pitching director for Arizona? If that person decides who should come in, he should be shot.

I'd say Soriano...he's been great. Or the obvious pick, Jeter. I gotta give mad props to Soriano, he's made a few mistakes but he has played the entire postseason with all his heart and soul. His will to win is amazing and fits in well with the rest of this team's down but never out attitude.

Well said...this team never quits...even when they are down they dust themselves off and kick some ass. The ability to overcome any obstacle is what truly amazes me about this team. Never say die....that is the reason they have won 4 out of the last 5 World Series, and it's probably why they will win this one.

I did feel really bad for that Korean pitcher.......he did his best, he just was no match for the Yanks when they are determined. It's not his fault though, damn manager shouldn't have put him in there.....I don't think it would've mattered who was on the mound, the Yanks are unstoppable when they are in this type of situation.

The entire Yankee infield deserves it, with Jeter and Bamtino from Wednesday and Brosious and and Soriano last night. The one constant in all 3 wins was Mariano Rivera.

Mvp=Mariano Rivera.

I'll have to agree with Teenweek. Great pitcher, great series for him. You can't give it to any of the fielders because they can't hit for shit in this series.

Hopefully, Justice will follow him out of the plane. Is this guy even trying. He had 3-0 last night and he swung at ball four and missed by a foot. This is his last few games as a Yankee I hope.

A friend of mine has heard from city officials that if the Yankees win the parade route will be moved from the canyon of heros and proceed from 57th street to 42nd street !
If they win on Saturday it will be on Monday.
If they win on Sunday it will be on Wednesday.

If they win on Sunday, I will stab myself in both ears and blind myself so that I dont have to listen or see the yankees celebrate on Wednesday.

Boy, when the going get good, everyone comes out of the woodwork :)

seriously,
Yankees barely won their three games at home. They used their experience, their composure, a little magic, and a short right field fence to get their wins.
Game 6 is by no means a gimme. Randy Johnson pitching at home, no DH, no Yankee Stadium mystique.

I sincerly hope it goes 7. If there is a 7th game, we get to see Schilling start for the 2nd time after 3 days rest, Clemens pitch and bat in an NL park, and everyone becomes available,as desperation sets in for both sides. Besides, all really memorable series last the full 7 (see 1960:))

This series will by far be one of the most memorable of all time regardless of whether the Yankees win it in six or seven. Not since the twenties has something like what Martinez or Brosius did happened, and they did it two straight nights.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees anally assault Randy Johnson tomorrow nite because how do you get over those two losses?!?
