The isles have also beaten Richter twice, Brodeur once, Khabibulin, Salo, Chechmanek. Those don't sound like backup goalies to me... well, except Richter. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | Yeah and the Islanders didnt have to fork over cash to get Peca and Yashin? Onto my next point. The Stars come into New york. Turco plays at the Coliseum, Belfour plays at the Garden. The Sharks come into New York. Kirprusoff plays against the Islanders, Nabakov plays against the Rangers. The Lightning come into New York, Weekes plays against the Islanders, Khabibulin plays against the Rangers. The Avalanche come into New York, Aebischter plays against the Islanders, Roy plays against the Rangers. When Detroit came into New York, No Hasek. It was Manny Legace. There was also a game against Washington, where Billington played instead of Kolzig. Of course there are instances during the season where you have beaten starting goalies, through 60 plus games, your going to bump into some starting goalies, but I think I have backed up my statement about the abundance of backup goalies the Islanders have played against. Oh and Richter being a backup goalie, that was a nice shot, Im sure any Islander fan would die to have Richter in there instead of what you got now. Mr. Osgood looked GREAT Tonight didnt he? | ||||

Part of the reason the backups have been playing is because the Isles get zero respect around the league (as they should have in previous years, no denying that fact). They were fortunate and good enough to take advantage of that on most occasions, such as a tie against the sharks, win against the avs, win against the lightning, win against the stars, and so on. If you feel more comfortable with Osgood in goal, than you would if you had Richter, well then what else can i say. Good luck to you with that. You ask 28 GM's around the NHL, who would you rather have in goal, 28 are going to say Mike Richter. That would be like me saying Id rather have Petr Nedved as a 2 way forward than Michael Peca. Just because Nedved's a Ranger, and Peca's an Islander. | ||||

If Osgood is so much better than Richter, then why is St. Louis and Philadelphia willing to give up major prospects to that they can get Richter for a Stanley Cup Run, and why are the Islanders looking into getting Ed Belfour, because they dont trust Osgood to win them a round in the playoffs? | ||||

BTW the last 4 years the rangers proved quite well spending $$$$ doesn't = cup or evven playoffs. As for the goalies, funny how you Bring up Belfour & Turco, since Turco is actually having a better year then Belfour. By the way how's the rangers defense going?? | ||||

I complemented them for finally going out and doing something with their team. i was responding to Ziggy's remark about the Rangers "buying" Gretzky. When thats the way things are in the NHL and thats how you compete. How can you complain about the Rangers buying Gretzky, when every team in the NHL thats wants to compete has to sign free Agents to be competitive. How's the Rangers defense? They suck. Have I ever said anything different. Sure Turco is better than Belfour right now, and Belfour is on his way out of Dallas, but back in October when Dallas was in New York, Belfour was still the #1 goaltender, not Turco.
