Gay baseball players - a theory - A scenario i was thinking about.
Posted by: Tenbatsuzen - 05-22-2002, 05:26 PM - Forum: SportsCenter - Replies (10)

Let's go to an alternate universe. Everything is still the same, except it's the summer of the year 2000, and Mike Piazza is out of the closet and gay. I'm not saying Piazza IS gay. This is just a scenario.

Now, imagine that Piazza has gotten beaned by Roger Clemens, a known devout Christian and branded by the media as being an asshole.

Fast forward to the World Series, with the bat-shard throwing incident.

How fast do you think it would take the liberal media to brand this a "hate crime", even though Piazza's sexuality would have nothing to do with the fact that he simply hit a game winning HR off Clemens and Clemens was letting him feel some pain as payback.

Sexuality in sports makes no sense. I admit, I laughed when Jay Mohr had that line about Jeff Garcia, Kordell Stewart, and Greg Louganis in the steam room, but why do we CARE? Does the fact that someone takes it in das doomper makes him any worse or better of a ballplayer?

Granted, in Hollywood, it's different. If Ben Affleck was gay, it would be a lot harder to accept him as a romantic or action lead by the mass media.

Sports, it's different. It's all about what you do on the field, NOT how the public perceives you.

Just my 11 cents. (Ikea will get that reference.)

I'm leaving! - The quintessential talk about me thread
Posted by: Sloatsburgh - 05-22-2002, 03:13 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (19)

Well, it's true. It's not like I have been here to much. Not enought to get a MSPaint picture about me. Cry Cry Cry

Actually here is the situation:

Yesterday I closed on my house. Today is my last day at work for around two weeks. After those two weeks, I will most likely be working in WFC where my actions will be monitored more and I will be busier. So it seems that I will not be posting at work after today.

Well, what about at home?

I will not have my cable modem for around a year. I will have cable, but cablevision will not offer internet until 2003 (read add another couple of months after target date). So, do I get dial up service? I would rather walk. Plus I do not want to tie up my phone line. I will be without decent internet service for a long time. No more porn and pirating for me.

So, I will be gone for a while. Maybe not. But it looks like it might happen.

  The perfect job
Posted by: GonzoStyle - 05-22-2002, 06:41 AM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (14)

With all this talk about jobs lately. Jobs you want and jobs you hate. Unemployment and relocation. Well why not poke some fun at it and play with it.

Take any board member and pick the perfect job for them.

Ikeaboy would be the perfect candidate to be in the movie industry. Ikeas love of the cinema and knowlege is one... actually his only redeeming quality, since he doesn't put out. Who can't just picture ikea being the lighting guy on a prono set? I mean with the low quality and standards in porn you wouldn't need much excellence. Plus he'd always be able to say he is in the movie business and fufill his dream. Maybe make some extra money as a fluffer and get guys infection sticks nice and hard.

  Bush & roosevelt
Posted by: GonzoStyle - 05-22-2002, 06:22 AM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (37)

It's pretty tough to compare either Bush to FDR. But with the recent acusation that Bush might have been aware of the threat of attack which took place on 9/11. It's reminiscent of the allegation that FDR was aware of the chance of attack by Japanese on Pearl harbor in 1941.

The difference is the time periods now. With the advent of television being the major one. Many people say that FDR might have not been elected if TV was as prominent in 1932 as it is today. Cause no one elects a man in a wheelchair to be president. Plus with every aspect of everyones private life just look at Clinton, being scrutinized. Add into that the loss of innocence and trust in our goverment fueled by Nixon and the Kennedy Assasination and Vietnam to name a few.

But mainly the fact that FDR was the epitome of American guts and triumph. He led us to great victory in WWII and aided the soviets and british to defeat hitler. FDR died during his 4th term before Truman decided to drop the bombs on japan so that is barred from his legacy.

So the mystery of wether he knew of pearl harbor beforehand kinda took a backseat. Since the biggest argument is since america refused to enter WW2 due to our belief after WW1 of isolationism. FDR turned a blind eye cause he knew this would get us into the war.

But now what of bush? Yeah we overthrew the taliban I say that with a straight face. Because we couldn't stop it cause we couldn't control a bunch of rebels which actually did the job with our bombs ofcourse. But Bin Laden is alive and now threatening us again so Bush hasn't been the leader that FDR was in that caliber. Yeah he gave a pretty speech before congress that fueled americans, myself included. But what is your opinion of him now? With these allegations that he knew and did nothing. Plus that our goverment looks helpless now. We are being threatened and doesn't look like we can do a damn thiing about it.

It's tough to call as of now cause we are basically in chapter 3 of a 12 chapter book. Bush's p[residency is not over yet. But will he go down like FDR or will this cripple his legacy as Vietnam did LBJ?
