| Carlito's Way: Rise To Power |

It was actually nowhere near as bad as I thought it'd be. Plus Jay Hernandez had a great performance as Carlito and didn't shame pacino.
Biggest complaint naturally is the fact that it ties in, in no way to the original with Pacino. None of the people in the pacino version are in this pre-quel. None of the people you hear being talked about from his past are in this film. Not his girlfriend, his partner, all of his friends, even the italian guys.
Also the happy fuckin ending just ruined the whole tone of the film which all but for the last 2 minutes was really good.
The other complains are asthetic, it had too modern a look to it, it was set in the 60's but it had a whole hip hop feel to it. Mario Van Peebles was the only one who fit the bill. Also the fact that this movie is seperated from the pacino version by several years but the age difference, looks wise is too dramatic between hernandez and pacino.
Also there really was no "rise to power", I wont spoil the film but if certain people were left around how could carlito "run the streets", he's made out to be a god in the pacino version.
Overall, great cast though, including burt young and a nice story but basically two seperate films with one common thread being its main character.
Maybe if they make another film it might tie it all in. But I doubt it since this one was straight to video. As a movie its a 3 out of 5, as a prequel its 0 out of 5.
I never read the books though so maybe this pre-quel is actually more faithful to the book but since a major film was already set up, they shoulda just followed suit.

| Opie And Anthony Order Attack On Stern Event |

Quote:Every available Opie and Anthony fan is stronlgy urged to report for duty on
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16 for the first full-scale deployment of The O&A Army.
The target is Howard Stern, the pioneer of satellite radio (HA!).
On the aforementioned date, Stern is expected to stage a media event where he
will proceed from the studios of WXRK-FM (FIFTH AVENUE and EAST 57TH STREET)
to Rockefeller Center (FIFTH AVENUE and EAST 49TH AVENUE) in New York.
Army members are to strongly vocalize their opposition to Stern and his
future employer using visual promotion of O&A by way of posters, signs, T-
shirts and WOW Stickers. The objective is not necessarily to disrupt the
event, but to change the ambient mood of the event from that of a celebration
of Stern, to, appropriately, that of a funeral of him.
XM Radio is based one long-block from WXRK on SIXTH AVENUE AND 57TH STREET
(BUILDING 111). Show paraphernalia will be in large supply on this date at
this building. One poster per person, please.
If at all possible, travel in packs, and seek out members of the press to
mention how O&A -- and not Howard Stern -- were the first radio personality
of stature and name-recognition to broadcast exclusively on satellite radio.
Army members are asked to visit (website omited) at the address below
and contact any moderator or Certified Attack Coordinator, at which time they
will receive more detailed instructions regarding The Assault on the Stern.
This attack has been ordered by Opie and Anthony themselves. Your cooperation
is strongly appreciated, and O&A look forward to working with you in the
future.
Thank you.

Mets land closer Wagner
Posted: 21 minutes ago
The Mets have landed coveted closer Billy Wagner in a four-year deal worth $43 million.
The deal could be worth as much as $50 million as it includes a fifth-year option for the Mets worth $10 million. But if the team declines the option, Wagner gets a $3 million buyout which is considered part of the original $43 million deal.
Two of the Mets' NL East rivals, the Phillies and Braves, also were trying to sign Wagner.
Wagner, 34, was 4-3 with 38 saves and a 1.51 ERA last season for Philadelphia, which wanted to re-sign him. Wagner has 284 career saves and will be 38 at the end of the deal — 39 if the Mets pick up his option.
After spending most of his career with Houston, his two seasons with the Phillies showed the left-hander he could handle pitching in a tough city.
"I think if I had an opportunity to play in New York four or five years ago, I probably wouldn't have been as receptive to it," Wagner said last week. "After the trade of going to Philadelphia and playing there, I believe that's made it that much easier to handle the media, the pressures."
In recent days, the Phillies have become the most aggressive suitor for free-agent right-hander Tom Gordon, whom they now could target as their closer.
