How much is a cup of coffee? - Size, Not Price
Posted by: IkeaBoy - 05-03-2002, 03:13 AM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (56)

When you say you drink X cups a day what, to you constitutes a cup? The definition of a cup as far as measurements go is 8 ounces. Do you consider that your 'cup' of coffee? Do you count the difference between a small, medium, large or, in some cases, extra large? Or is your 'cup' a mug of coffee?

Why icq owns my soul - And why you people should drop aim
Posted by: Sephiroth - 05-03-2002, 01:33 AM - Forum: Über Geek Zone - Replies (41)

Taken from Here.

Quote:When someone sends you a message, there's no new window- I can't put enough emphasis on this reason. How annoying is it to be typing and then a new window springs up or you're playing a game and AIM yanks you out of it (though they finally fixed this).
AIM's Warning is gay. No one ever uses warn to do anything but annoy friends. What's really gay is that even after you block someone, they can still warn you! WTF is up with that??
Since ICQ relies on unique numbers rather than names, you can have any nickname you want. The only downfall with this is that spammers will send a msg to random numbers. But you can easily refuse to accept msgs from people not on your list if you don't like it that much (I get one spam msg a month, woop-e-doo). "But noone wants to remember a number" Whatever- you remember jumbled mix letters and numbers as it is, plus no one just tells someone their screen name- you always write it down for them, as you do with your ICQ number.
ICQ allows more than just one kind of "away": Away for short away time, NA for extended periods, Occupied which allows people to send urgent msgs that still make a new msg sound, DND for when you're not to be disturbed, and Private which you appear to be offline to everyone (accept certain people you choose who you can see you as in Private).
I can read a new ICQ msg by just hitting Ctrl+Shift+Z (or whatever you want). So I can still get to a msg easily, but when I finish whatever I'm doing first.
Rather than playing a sound every person that gets online, I can choose to only hear a sound for certain people.
I CAN SEND MSGS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ONLINE!
The maximum size of an ICQ msg is 30,720 characters, opposed to AIM's 1,024.
ICQ keeps a history of every msg I send and receive. This is extremely useful since at college I forget whotf someone is or what I asked them them last night. And if you're so concerned with someone reading your history, you can always delete parts or all of it.
Inside someone's info you can make notes that only you can see, again extremely useful when you have 30 or so new people that you only talk to rarely.
Along with the Notes section, you can actually change what their name is in your Contact List. So rather than seeing "oNeCooLDuDe" I can put "Fag Cherry Picker Who Leeches" which reminds me that he is a man-kissing type-killer who leeches warez from me.
ICQ let's me send one msg to mutiple people on my Contact List.
I can send files DIRECTLY to people. While AIM finally added file transfering, they still fucked it up. Rather then sending from Me -> You, AIM sends the file from Me -> AOL -> You. Which makes the transfering nice and slow.
When you click on a web address in AIM, AIM automatically opens the URL in the current browser window, so most of the time I end up switching to Netscape, opening a new window, switching back to AIM, and then clicking on the link. ICQ gives you the *gasp* option to open it up in a new window or current window.
ICQ doesn't automatically take me off away when if I send a msg to someone while away.
I can easily send someone my Contacts. Instead of having to type ten or twenty people's screen names, I can just select their names and send them to someone.
ICQ doesn't have ad banners.

And that's just SOME of the benefits ICQ has over AIM. Is it confusing? Yes, like any new software you get, ICQ is initially intimidating. But after 10 minutes of screwing around, you'll easily get the hang of it. Dont like the look? Then go here and download new skins for ICQ. My personal ICQ Number is 124597632. I know what you're saying "OMFG SEPH I AM A BRAINDEAD IDIOT WHO EATS HIS/HER OWN FECES AND LIEKS IT I CANNOT REMEMBER A NUMBER DURRRRRRRRRRRR" But it isnt like that. Once you enter the number, you only see the person's nickname after that ("Seph" in my case). So get ICQ now. Go. Now. Hurry. Scoot. Run along now. Knuckledragger.

PS. - Download ICQ here.

Angry drawing = death threat @ 11 years - No tolerance strikes again
Posted by: IkeaBoy - 05-03-2002, 12:10 AM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (13)

Just another example of HOW FUCKING STUPID our country is. We are too serious, too politically correct and can't see things in any sort of logic whatsoever. Why can't kids be angry at teachers for getting a bad grade?

Girl Suspended in Doodle of Teacher
The Associated Press
Thursday, May 2, 2002; 10:49 AM

MOUNT LEBANON, Pa. –– A school suspended an 11-year-old girl for drawing two teachers with arrows through their heads, saying the stick figures were more death threat than doodle.

Becca Johnson, an honor-roll sixth-grader at Mellon Middle School, drew the picture on the back of a vocabulary test on which she had gotten a D.

"That's my way of saying I'm angry," Becca said, adding she meant no harm to the teachers.

The stick figures, on a crudely drawn gallows with arrows in their heads, had the names of Becca's teacher and a substitute teacher written underneath. Another teacher spotted the doodle in the girl's binder Tuesday and reported it, prompting the three-day suspension.

Becca's parents, Philip and Barbara Johnson, denied the school's contention the drawings were "terrorist threats."

"She had done poorly on a test that was handed back to her. We've always told her that you can't take your feelings out on your teacher, so write about it or draw it, as a catharsis," Barbara Johnson said.

She accused the school of applying a zero-tolerance policy that "does away with due process and inflicts a penalty without a hearing or investigation."

The district said its zero-tolerance policy applies only to gun or drug possession, and denied that no investigation was done.

"All I can say is that when we have taken action related to the activities of students in the schools, we have done so after a thorough investigation," Mount Lebanon School District Superintendent Glenn Smartschan said.

Geek chic? or just a cool toy? - Don't care, check out what i ordered...
Posted by: Kid Afrika - 05-02-2002, 11:46 PM - Forum: Über Geek Zone - Replies (18)

My buddy showed me this cool little remote control car yesterday. I placed my order today. These fucking things are cool as shit. They are supposed to be under 60mm(2.5in) long, and fully functional remote control. The remote uses 2 AA batteries, and the car recharges from the remote. According to this site, the car charges in 45 sec and the charge lasts about 2 min.

They are available in several different body styles, and there are "hop-up" parts of all sorts available for them.

I'm pretty souped about getting this thing. But, then I'm still not much more than a big kid when it comes to little toys like this.

The cars and accessories are available from Cosmo Games

Posted by: Cunt-Twat - 05-02-2002, 10:04 PM - Forum: Entertainment Unlimited - Replies (18)

there's a debate whether or not the osbournes will be on again next season. sharon wants it to be taped from their home in england, and she wants more money.

i think that they shouldn't have another season, it's too much! i love the show, but it'll be over kill if they do another season.

what do you think??

Every single thing has become undone

<center>Alone

This empty room it fills my mind
Freedom it leaves me so confined
Every single bone has cracked
what in this life, you can't turn back

I don't want to live
I don't want to live here alone, alone

as these words part with my tounge
I question why they even sung
I promise but I lie
I don't even know myself inside

I don't wanna be
I don't wanna be here alone, alone

Today and tommorow have become one
Every single thing has become undone
Human nature is a beast
What ive done the most, to show i have the least

Please don't leave me here
Please don't leave me here
Don't you leave me alone, alone
