clothes shopping - aka my Saturday afternoon
Posted by: Goatweed - 10-13-2003, 02:12 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (50)

so this past weekend, it was time for me to update my wardrobe - mainly for work, as my non-work clothing typically consists of jeans and a t-shirt. Most times when I have to shop for clothes, it's always a pain in the ass, and this time was no different. Anyway, I needed some new khakis so off to Sears I went.

Not only did they not have much of a selection, they didn't have 1 pair os pants in my size - now those of you who have met me know I'm not as thin as a rail, but I'm not huge either. So, off I go to Macy's - I knew I would spend a little more, but I had no option.

Macy's turns out to be a bust - they had some in my size, but were way too expensive (who pays $50 for khaki's?)

My last resort - JC Penney. They had plenty of Docker's pants in my size, but Docker's and me have a love/hate relationship - some fit me like a glove, others are so uncomfortable I end up returning them. Just when I thought all hope was lost, I ran across a brand - "Savane", which I assume is either their brand or some unknown name. I try a pair on and not only do they fit, they fit well - and are comfortable as all hell. The kicker is they were $25 a piece, cheaper than anything else I had seen that day!

I was so happy with my purchase, I bought a pack of Skittles on my way out of the mall - for that brief moment this past weekend, life was good. There were loads of hot girls there, too - where the hell were these pieces of ass when I was 19/20/21??

Quote:really the only thing I miss is the CART threads.

MEXICO CITY (AP)— Paul Tracy knew he was in position to win the Mexico Grand Prix when he came out of his final pit stop just ahead of Sebastian Bourdais.
"I just had to keep it clean and smooth through the esses," said Tracy, who started from the pole, dominated the Mexico Grand Prix from start to finish Sunday and built his lead for the CART series championship with just two races to go.

Bourdais, who clinched rookie of the year honors, pressured Tracy through the final 32 laps after beating Newman-Hass teammate Bruno Junqueira out of their second pit stop on lap 38.

Tracy's Team Forsythe crew held his lead on the final pit stop: he entered just a half-second ahead of Bourdais and came out just ahead.

Tracy's 26th career victory tied him for third on CART's career list with Rick Mears, a three-time champion. Tracy can secure his own first title with a victory in either of the final two races.

He won in a car stripped of the logo of his major sponsor, Players, because of a new Canadian law against tobacco advertising. Instead, the names of hundreds of fans were painted on the cockpit and fuel tanks.

Mexico's Mario Dominguez, who won Sept. 28 in Miami, finished third in front of a roaring, near-capacity crowd. Fellow countryman Michel Jourdain Jr. fought back from a first-lap mishap to finish fourth.

Giddy at a podium finish, Dominguez gave his car a celebratory doughnut spin on the track as the crowd chanted "Mario! Mario!"

"Being able to finish third here is the best thing that has happened to me in my life," he said after the race.

Mexican television invited crowds to celebrate at a downtown monument, the Angel of Independence, better known for soccer celebrations.

Brazilian Bruno Junqueira finished seventh, gradually slipping back after running second for the first half of the race. With points for the victory and most laps led, Tracy has 226 points to 197 for Junqueira.

Bourdais said Junqueira had spent most of the morning in the medical center with an upset stomach.

For the second year in a row, the first turn on the 2.786-mile road course was almost the last for several drivers. Adrian Fernandez and Jourdain both cut across the grass: Fernandez to avoid a spinning Jimmy Vasser and Jourdain to miss Darren Manning.

"I don't know if somebody touched Jimmy or what happened," said Jourdain, whose finish put him just 14 points behind Junqueira for second place in the series championship.

Fernandez was forced off the pavement at the same corner on the fourth lap in an incident that left Geoff Boss out of the race for going off course.

In 2002, pole-sitter Junqueira hit the wrong gear and veered off course while Tracy bumped into Vasser and veered into a gravel trap.

Fernandez led for six laps because of a delayed final pit stop, but then dropped back to 10th before finally finishing eighth.

Otherwise, Sunday was the culmination of a disappointing weekend for Mexico's most popular driver, who missed last year's Mexico City race with an injury.

Fernandez seemed prepared for a shot at a hometown win after leading 88 laps of the Sept. 28 race in Miami, but struggled with the setup of his car and qualified 15th.

Tracy built an 8-second lead over Junqueira before the second pit stop, where Bourdais beat Junqueira out of the pits for second place.

The race tightened after a yellow flag was waved on the 40th lap. Former series champion Vasser spun, Alex Tagliani hit him and both went out. By the time the green flag waved on lap 44, 15 drivers were within 10 seconds of the leader.

I decided not to post this response in the thread, cause I didnt want to diss Jack/Gonzo by spamming.

I see ClusterF (now known as clusterine) over at http://www.opieanthony.net (where I get goatweed to hang also sometimes, though not in sports)

There are a couple of decent sports posters, but it still isnt the same yet - although there is a better mix - more non-NY'ers. - as well as chance to rip FastFreddy's Bruins.

I saw Francine at YMB, but the stupidity that lingers there seems to have driven him away.

So it's all Alkey's fault. I should have known.

2 Yankees to be charged with assault
Posted by: Teenweek - 10-12-2003, 02:33 AM - Forum: SportsCenter - Replies (11)

I cannot believe this.

Associated Press
BOSTON -- Boston police say they plan to charge two New York Yankees players with assault and battery after an incident in the Yankees bullpen tonight.

Police spokesman Michael McCarthy didn't release the names of the two players.

McCarthy says a man who was seen in the bullpen in the ninth inning of the Yankees 4-to-3 playoff win over the Red Sox was a Fenway Park employee and that he was the victim of the assault.

New York reliever Jeff Nelson fought with a Fenway Park employee in the Yankees' bullpen in the ninth inning of the AL championship series Saturday night.

With tempers already high following a bench-clearing melee earlier in the game, Nelson took exception to Paul Williams, who was waving a white flag in the bullpen in the ninth inning. The reliever told Williams he didn't like it, and the two started to fight.

"He was standing in our bullpen waving the rally flag," Nelson said following New York's 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the AL championship series.

"I told him if you're rooting for the Red Sox, why don't you go in their bullpen," Nelson said. "He jumped in my face and tried to take a swing at me."

A number of Yankees surrounded Williams, who appeared to be wearing a Red Sox grounds crew shirt, before he was escorted out the back by police. Right fielder Karim Garcia, who apparently leaped over the fence and got involved in the fight, appeared to injure his left hand. He was removed from the game before the bottom of the ninth started, and was taken to the training room with the hand wrapped.

Williams had been waving the flag a few innings earlier when Boston was trying to come back.

Red Sox spokesman Kevin Shea confirmed that Williams is an employee of the team.

McCarthy said Williams "is going to be a dealt with internally, I think." McCarthy also said he didn't think the man was arrested.

Nelson said Williams was the same employee who yelled at the Yankees' dugout during Game 4 of the ALCS in 1999 when a number of fans threw water bottles on the field following a controversial call.

"After a while, we started to remember that," Nelson said.

During that game, fans threw things on the field in the right-field corner after a pair of calls went against the Red Sox. Many members of the Yankees were on the top step of the dugout when that occurred.

"What disturbs me most is the lawless attitude here and the total lack of security," Yankees president Randy Levine said. "Just the fact that an employee jumped in, he should be prosecuted."
