AUSTIN SETTLES COURT CASE, CAN'T DRINK BUT MAY BE CLOSER TO WWE RETURN
by Dave Scherer Updated: 11/25/2002 6:49:16 PM
The Associated Press and Reuters reported today that Steve Austin pleaded No Contest to the assault charges that were pending against him in Bexar County (TX) court stemming from the June incident where he was charged with assaulting his wife Debra during a domestic dispute.
As a result of the plea, Austin was given a $1,000 fine, one year's probation, forced to perform 80 hours of community service and told to undergo domestic violence counseling. If he satisfies all of those obligations, no guilty charge will be entered on his record. Reuters also reported that as part of the plea, Austin will be prohibited from drinking alcohol for the year, which may be the harshest penalty of all to him.
Reuters quoted Austin as saying after the hearing, "It's been a chaotic few months. I'm not a regular in the court system, so I'm glad to get it behind me. This has been a drag."
One of the things that has been holding Austin back from a return to WWE has been this court case. Now that it's settled, Austin's return seems more likely to occur. Reuters quoted Austin as saying, "I made my first personal appearance recently in Richmond, Virginia and there were five thousand people there, so I feel I still have a lot of drawing power."

Porn -- The 'Recession-Proof' Industry
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25, 2002
"The adult industry doesn't follow the same ups and downs that other businesses do. But it is a very profitable business and pretty recession-proof."
Michael Goodman, entertainment industry analyst
(AP) In the vast, suburban expanse of the San Fernando Valley, one of the largest industries thrives quietly inside unmarked warehouses, walled estates and hidden studios. In fact, some locals call it "San Pornando Valley".
The region is home to most of America's pornography industry — videos, Web sites, phone sex businesses, adult toys and even the old-fashioned dirty magazine.
While many parts of the nation's economy have suffered, the past five years have been good for the adult industry, as new video and computer technology opened the doors to hundreds of millions of potential customers around the world.
"The adult industry doesn't follow the same ups and downs that other businesses do," said Paul Fishbein, publisher of Adult Video News, the trade paper of the adult industry. "It still grows every year in terms of sales and rental volume."
While the valley is home to some of the biggest names in the movie business — Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Brothers and Universal Studios — the 354 square miles of tract homes, strip centers and freeways on the north side of the Hollywood Hills also hosts some less famous names in the industry — Vivid Entertainment, VCA, Wicked Pictures and dozens of other studios churning out X-rated DVDs and videos.
"Twenty years ago, you had people sneaking into those little theaters. That's all changed with technology," said Bill Asher, president of Vivid Entertainment. "We've gone from a market of hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions."
The film, television and Web-based products produced by Vivid alone grossed $1 billion in retail sales last year, he said. A 1998 study by Forrester Research in Cambridge, Mass., estimated that the industry generates $10 billion a year.
But in a business where few companies are public and new providers continually appear, it's difficult to come up with a dollar figure for the industry, said Michael Goodman, an entertainment industry analyst at the Yankee Group in Boston. "But it is a very profitable business and pretty recession-proof."
Sales and rentals of adult videos produced by American companies was a $4 billion business last year, Fishbein said, based on a survey of thousands of video stores and overall sales figures from the Video Software Dealers Association.
That growth has produced dozens of large and small valley studios producing hundreds of new titles each year and created a star-making machinery much like the old Hollywood studios.
Actors like Jenna Jameson, the reigning star of adult films, have big-dollar contracts with filmmakers who promote them on Web sites, movie display boxes and public appearances.
A top "contract girl" can command thousands for dancing at an adult club, licensing products and starring on their own Web sites, like Jameson's "Club Jenna," said Jay Grdina, who runs Jameson's businesses.
But adult filmmakers and actors aren't the only ones making money. Mainstream cable companies, satellite providers and hotel chains that offer in-room adult movies are cashing in, too, but like to keep their involvement low-profile.
"We really can't characterize how popular adult programming is," said Robert Mercer, a spokesman for Direct TV, which offers adult channels and pay-per-view films. "We don't break out viewership for any of our channels."
Production of the valley's X-rated movies also is kept low-profile. Most are filmed in unmarked industrial buildings that border churches, schools and neighborhoods.
Two decades ago, the business was divided among Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. It has migrated to the valley since then because of low rents and access to the mainstream movie business, Fishbein said.
A chance to see adult films at home helped sell millions of VCRs in the 1980s. Now the industry is experimenting with interactive DVDs, said John Virata, senior editor of Digital Media Net, a trade magazine for the digital industry.
"They are always the first movers in everything," he said.
In the valley, the business means thousands of jobs for actors, editors, directors, camera operators and set dressers, such as the people working on "The Alley," a new video being produced at a Vivid warehouse in Chatsworth. As the crew prepared to shoot, actors TJ Hart, Violet Blue and Brad Taylor passed around Altoids and discussed their upcoming scene.
In a small makeup trailer out back, another actress, who goes by the name of Dee, waited for her scene and talked about the business.
"For anyone looking for work, you have to be (in the valley)," she said.

Thanks to WWE.com for the following:
This Monday night, RAW comes to you from the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C.!
From 1998 to now, Shawn Michaels has had four WWE matches: there was the Casket Match at Royal Rumble '98, his battle with Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIV, his epic encounter with Triple H at SummerSlam last August, and the Elimination Chamber at Survivor Series.
Michaels hasn't competed on RAW since late 1997! But that'll change this Monday night when he steps into the ring for his first RAW match in five full years! In a match fans have dreamed about for years, the Heartbreak Kid will put the World Heavyweight Title on the line against the man who became No. 1 contender on this week's RAW, Rob Van Dam! That's right -- the World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line, live on RAW!
Triple H was injured at the hands of RVD at Survivor Series. Is Shawn Michaels, whose own health problems have been well documented, up to the challenge? Find out this Monday night at 9/8 CT, when RAW airs live on the new TNN!

Lately there has been a lot of enhancements and changes here on the board. Some have been noticeable some you probably are oblivious to.
What I want to know is if you like them or not. Should we continue to add features/enhancements and make changes or should we just leave it alone?
This board is and always has been for the members, so step up and make your voice heard. We want to do what the majority wants, not necessarily what we want.

I got this email today, like I am sure all or most of you did -
Quote:Hello mailto:.
OA.com was a way for many people to connect, people who otherwise would never have met either online, or in real life. We will not sit and explain or expand on the rumors and stories of why the site was closed, that isn't our purpose. But we would like to offer those people who were once able to come together the chance to not lose touch. All of your former Opieanthony.com accounts have been reinstated on overthelimit.com. Sure many of our critics will say this was all a calculated plot, let them say what they will, we simply think to just let the medium die is a tragic waste.
This is however a different site. The in-fighting and drama that was tolerated on OA.com will not be tolerated here. If you would like to once again converse and have fun with some of the people you once knew there, then feel free to stick around and see where the future takes us.
To transfer your account goto this url:

Then enter your email address:
-OpieAnthony.com
Is is legal to sign members of one site up to another without written permission? We agreed to the end user agreements with OpieAnthony.com. Nowhere in their privacy disclaimer did it say that we agreed to have our accounts transferred if we agreed to the user agreement.
Also, this is a clear cut case of SPAM. This is a sample of what legally needs to be put in an email to remove the liabilit6y of email abuse (SPAM) ---
Quote:This mail has been sent in response to your request to receive great offers from xyzcompany.
This letter Can Not be Considered Spam as long as we include the way to be removed.
To be removed from future mailings, simply go to our unsubscribe page: UNSUBSCRIBE
Lastly, I wonder when my account was reinstated, if it was reinstated in it's banned state, or is Matty boy saying, "Let's start fresh."

First off let me apologze for my absence, I have just had a lot of shit come down on me at once. My personal life has called for me to take a hiatus from the board but I have been involved and have been checking in.
I did come back to do this post though. A while back I said that we were working on a few things and this was the main thing we were working on. A front page which basically I wanted to do cause it looks better than what we had and it makes the users experience nicer and easier. Once again we have Jack mostly to thank for it, he took my vision and not only did it but did it 10 times better than I could have hoped.
I know at first glance it may look like it shouldn't have taken long to do but it did. We went through several redesigns.
One of the newest features is a chat room, it's not meant to be a replacement for foundry chat. The reason I am doing this post is to difuse any rumors or false conclusions as to it's design. The chat room is for use if there are a few people on in the afternoon who would like to chat, since foundry is empty during the day. Plus there are people who do not like going to foundry.
Secondly this was my main concern, I do not want any misunderstandings with this. You will notice an "articles" section, now a few of you will think "OTL.com" when you hear the word articles, that is not my intent nor the intent of anyone here.
First off I want to say that you do not have to go to this front page. This is strictly done for one reason and none other than for you members. The articles are meant to get your minds thinking, to get your juices flowing. The main thing I want to gain from the articles is to give you people who don't start posts or who don't have something to discuss a little boost. Or atleast it will be an interesting read I hope.
I didn't want the OTL feel mainly cause there are no banners and never will be banners here, nor any today on cdih boxes. Also by article I don't mean there will be movie reviews or music reviews, I mean actual articles and opinions.
I wrote two articles cause VG couldn't get hers in due to personal reasons. I didn't read the other articles but I am sure they are great. Mine probably suck cause I just wrote them an hour ago but we wanted to get this up a.s.a.p and didn't wanna procrastinate with it anymore.
If someone other than a mod wants to write something they may do so. Maybe you have something that you think wouldn't make a great post but would still make a good statement, please feel free to send it to myself or any mod.
The rest of the stuff is rather elementary and is explained by jack in his article. It took us all a couple months to get this here and we hope you enjoy it.
You will notice a new forum, all the articles you see on the front page can be found in there. Members can not start posts but can reply to them. Please feel free to start a post in one of the other forums if you disagree, agree, or hate an article, that is the whole point.
I am really tired and have a long day ahead of me. I just wanted to clear everything up before people got the wrong idea.
If you do not get what I mean by front page. The front page is where you go to enter the board which is http://www.cdih.net
I miss you guys and I'll be back soon hopefully, the bowling tourney is still on. I just have to work a few snippets out.
I also want to thank all the people who donated money, it was greatly appreciated and helped more than you can imagine cause I don't have two nickels to rub this month.

| Everyone loves an underdog or do they? |

It was supposed to be a foregone conclusion for everyone in the crowd. The champion would defeat the challenger without much trouble. That is until the challenger knocks down the champion in the opening round. The crowd rises to its feet in shock, the under dog whom no one gave a chance is standing over “the greatest”. The challenger was Chuck Wepner and the man he knocked down was Muhammad Ali. One of the people in the audience was a struggling actor who spent his last dollars for a ticket to see the fight. Though Ali would eventually win the fight, the idea was planted in this young mans mind. Everyone loves to see the underdog win, the hopeless who finds hope. That young man’s name was Sylvester Stallone and the idea he got that night would end up being “Rocky ™”.
We all love to see the underdog somehow pull off a victory against someone whom they stand no chance against. Maybe it makes us feel that if they can accomplish the impossible, then we can also. Maybe it’s just cause we hate seeing the same person or teams win over and over again. How many times can we have the Yankees or The Lakers win. How many times can you fathom to see Tiger Woods hold up a trophy? Granted these are the people who have distinguished themselves from everyone else because of their greatness. It is astonishing to watch the accomplishments Tiger constantly attains.
Who didn’t love seeing John Starks dunk on Michael Jordan? Yeah but what is the big deal, Jordan did that on such a constant basis it became almost expected of him. The big deal is for that one moment he got a taste of his own medicine, it felt good. How many people jumped on The Sacramento Kings bandwagon during last seasons NBA playoffs? How bad did every want to see the Lakers dethroned?
Then again after thinking about it for a while, the law of the jungle is that the lion is king of the jungle. There is a certain chain that has to be followed, you disrupt that chain and a chain reaction begins. What I mean is, while it is sweet to see a cocky athlete get his mouth shut it isn’t always a good thing. Let me explain by using the sport I love most.
I will use a recent event to show you how an under dog has disrupted the chain of events in the sport of boxing. Last year promoter Don King set up a tournament to unify the Middleweight Titles. The Four-Man elimination included all three champions and Felix Trinidad. The finals ended up with Long Time champion Bernard Hopkins facing the younger, stronger and faster Trinidad. Anyone who says they gave Hopkins a chance is probably full of it. Those are the same people who probably knew Spacey was Keyser Soze throughout the whole movie.
The showdown was no more than just a stepping stone to the true prize. If…no, when Trinidad beat Hopkins. Trinidad would move up in weight to meet the pound for pound king, light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. Boxing fans drooled at the thought of it. The only problem is, Bernard Hopkins closing in on 40 years of age disrupted everyone’s plans. He knocked out the unstoppable Felix Trinidad in the 12th and final round of the fight. To prove how much a forgone conclusion it was that Trinidad would win. Hopkins was not presented with his winning trophy that night because Trinidad’s name was already inscribed on it.
I was happier than probably anyone that Hopkins beat Trinidad. Finally someone stopped him and shut him up. A year later now, Trinidad has retired and Hopkins has had one fight since against a mandatory challenger whom posed no threat. The Trinidad Vs Jones fight never happened. The Hopkins vs. Jones fight seemed like the next best thing. Jones offered Hopkins twice the amount of his biggest payday ever. But it would call for a 60/40 split in favor of Jones. Hopkins wanted 50/50, which is absurd. First and foremost Jones already owns a win over Hopkins, granted it was 8 years ago. Plus it would be Jones titles on the line. It was because Hopkins knew what most of us tried to ignore; Jones would destroy Hopkins once again. 8 years ago Jones defeated Hopkins with a fractured right hand, why should it be different now? Jones is stronger and Hopkins is weary.
So now Hopkins is going nowhere, Jones is moving up to heavyweight in a dangerous fight that might shorten if not end his career. The middleweight division is at a standstill, the light heavyweight division will be in shambles soon. We lost Trinidad and now where do we go?
For the nonchalant fans, I’ll give you an easier example. Just remember Tyson Vs. Douglas, think, what if? Does anyone care that the Houston Rockets won back to back NBA titles during Jordans absence?
