OK, I've downloaded/traded hundreds of MP3's, but I've never actually taken my own CD's and converted them to MP3's. What's a good software app to use? I'm looking to encode at a decent bitrate to maintain the sound, but I'd like to keep the filesize respectable.

The reason I ask is because I just got my hands on an Iron Maiden boxset thats comprised of BBC recordings from the 70's and 80's, as well as classic live performances from the mid to late 80's (the creme de la creme as far as live Maiden goes) and I wanna send them to a few friends of mine without copying the 6 cd's and mailing them. And if there's any interest from you guys, I'd gladly share them (as well as the rest of my metal collection) - but I need to encode everything first.

Any suggestions?

After about 4 or so months of my PS2 not reading various formats of media, i fixed it. Those CD/DVD cleaners suck. I tried compressed air but it didn't help. So my solution was to search online for a tutorial and crack the sucker open. At last every single game, dvd and cd works now. I encourage all those capable to try this. The trick that finally did it was cleaning the lens with a Q-tip and Rubbing Alcohol then blowing it dry with compressed air.

i am about to install a complete wireless system in my apartment. this should ,(if all goes well), link my PC with my two laptops , thereby creating a [finger quotes]network[/finger quotes], of such awesome proportions that even the gods will weep. Or at least thats the idea.

Does anyone know where on the net I could find a store that sells Iron-ons? I can't find one store on-line that sells them.

Specifically, I am looking for a Lambda Lambda Lambda iron on for my brother. Don't you want to be a Tri-Lam?

Dillinger Escape Plan Tour, Delay Album
They've already ditched Jack Osbourne twice
Jeffrey Ellinger reports:
In a recent interview posted on Epitaph Records' website, Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan revealed plans for the group's next full-length: originally slated for a December 2002 release, the album has now been delayed until mid-2003. Puciato blames the delay on their headlining tour and opening slot for System of a Down earlier this year. And more bad luck: the band will not release their planned split with Buddyhead buddies The Icarus Line. Puciato said any other extra work would push the upcoming full-length back even further.

The new record is presently without title or parent label: Epitaph only signed on for the Irony is a Dead Scene EP (featuring Mike Patton), and Puciato says that contractual obligations with Relapse Records may make it impossible to release an album on any other imprint. In other words: you blew it big time, brah.

The Dillinger Escape Plan are taking a short breather after some heavy touring this year, but they'll soon bundle up in Columbia jackets and wool scarves for an eleven-date jaunt across the US this winter. The Strokes are offering $500 to the first person to spraypaint "TTL PU$$IE$" on the side of their van. Tourdates:
