Mr Thomas, did you order than code red????
Posted by: faceman802 - 12-18-2006, 03:05 PM - Forum: SportsCenter - Replies (32)

would they just fire this piece of shit already and get it over with. He sounded like such a crybaby the other night, "ohh they shouldn't have been in the game, they were running it up on us." who says you have to show sportsmanship in the nba? maybe if your team didn't suck, it wouldn't get blown out at home, oh well here's the article.

Quote:The N.B.A. is investigating whether Isiah Thomas, the president and coach of the Knicks, ordered a hard foul that touched off a brawl with the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, several people involved in the investigation said yesterday

The Nuggets, according to those people, are pointing to an exchange between Thomas and the Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony — part of which was captured by the MSG Network — that seemed to convey a threat. None of the people who spoke about the exchange were willing to be identified.

Ten players were ejected after the fight, which started when Mardy Collins, a Knicks rookie, clobbered J. R. Smith of the Nuggets as he was driving for a basket.

Some of these players, and possibly Thomas, are expected to receive suspensions today after a review of the videotape and interviews of players, coaches and security personnel.

The league is certain to punish Anthony, its leading scorer and one of its brightest young stars, for throwing a punch at Collins. As for Thomas, a Hall of Fame guard who is now fighting to hold on to his job, the situation is unusual because there is no known precedent for a team’s coach, let alone its president, to be punished for instigating a fight.

With 1 minute 32 seconds left, the MSG broadcast focused on Thomas while Denver’s Marcus Camby shot free throws. The Nuggets were leading, 117-100. Thomas, standing on the sideline, his arms folded and his jaw tight, bites his lip and starts talking to a Nuggets player. The player is not in the camera shot, but the broadcaster Mike Breen notes that Thomas is talking to Anthony.

There is no audio of Thomas, but in repeated viewing of the video he appears to say: “Hey, don’t go to the basket right now. It wouldn’t be a good idea.” Seconds later, Thomas cocks his head, holds out his right palm and, with a slight smile, adds, “Just letting you know.”

The broadcast did not capture the entire exchange, however, as the network toggled between cameras. Thomas also told Anthony that he “shouldn’t be in the game right now,” because the score was lopsided and the Knicks had removed most of their starters, according to an associate who spoke with Thomas yesterday. The message was intended as a plea not to embarrass the Knicks further. The associate was not authorized to speak on Thomas’s behalf and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Calvin Andrews, Anthony’s agent, confirmed that Anthony said Thomas had told him to stay away from the area under the basket. Andrews indicated that Anthony gave that account to N.B.A. officials. Thomas also spoke to league officials.

The issue for N.B.A. officials is how to interpret Thomas’s words, and his intent. Was Thomas merely advising a young star that he should not embarrass the Knicks by running up the score? Or was he issuing a warning?

After the game — but before Thomas’s comments came to light — Thomas gave reporters his account of that conversation with Anthony.

“I just said to him: ‘You’re up 19 with a minute and a half to go. You and Camby really shouldn’t be in the game right now.’ We had surrendered. And those guys shouldn’t have been in the game at that time,” Thomas said. “They were sticking it to us pretty good. They were having their way with us pretty good. I think J. R. Smith had just made one dunk where he reverses it and spins in the air. I thought that Mardy didn’t want to have our home crowd see that again and he fouled him.”

The Knicks were off yesterday, and team officials declined to comment on the incident or Thomas’s actions. Neither James L. Dolan, chairman of Madison Square Garden, which owns the Knicks, nor Steve Mills, the Garden president, will be commenting on the matter at any point, a company spokesman said.

“Isiah will address any questions about it tomorrow,” the spokesman, Barry Watkins, said.

This was already a perilous time for Thomas, who has guided the Knicks as team president since Dec. 22, 2003. In June, Thomas was ordered by Dolan to coach the team and was given a one-year ultimatum — to show progress or be dismissed. Four days before the brawl, Dolan said that Thomas “absolutely” had the entire season to save his job. But Dolan also said the progress to date was insufficient. The Knicks have won 9 of 26 games.

As the losses have mounted, Thomas has occasionally lashed out at opponents and the Knicks’ fans. On Nov. 4, Thomas criticized the Indiana Pacers for celebrating too much in the final minutes of a victory in the Knicks’ home opener.

The following week, Thomas took issue with Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs, accusing him of dangerous defensive tactics that led to a sprained ankle by the Knicks’ Steve Francis. When the teams played again that week, and Bowen used the same tactic, Thomas had to be restrained from going after him. Thomas was also heard shouting to his players to “Break his feet,” referring to Bowen.

Stuff that isn't important enough to have its own thread
Posted by: Galt - 12-18-2006, 02:27 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (294)

I saw Adrian Grenier (Vinny Chase) at a bar on Saturday. Neither he, nor that fact was not important enough to start its own thread, but I couldn't even find an Entourage thread to top.

Rolf's is a cool place to go before Xmas. I couldn't find any good pictures of it online, but it's a German bar/restaurant on 23rd & 3rd. It's got an insane amount of lights. A blinding amount.

Anyway, it's normally fairly empty. You can walk in, and sit at the bar, snap some pics on your camera phone and send them to your friends while drinking German beers.

We walked in Saturday, and unlike every other Saturday, the place was jam-packed. You couldn't even get to the bar. At least 10x or even 20x the amount of people there. I'm guessing there was some special party, maybe even a wrap party for a movie or something, but IMDB isn't saying he's working now.

So anyway, he was standing right at the door, talking up some not-even-that-attractive girl, while no one paid attention to him, except for (hopefully) his two geeky-looking guy friends who just stood opposite him from three feet away staring at him in silence.

If they all weren't there for him, I wonder if he was happy he was being ignored or angry. It must be weird, that he's pretty much a nobody, but he plays a superstar, so does he expect superstar treatment? [/img]

Has anyone seen this garbage pail idea?
It's the new satellite network that provides games for paying customers only. of which, they have none because people can get most games for free. So, the games you might want to watch are now unavailable for a massive section of football fans.
Now, they've refused to strike a deal with Time Warner Cable to let regional customers in New York and New Jersey see the Rutgers Bowl game in Houston.

Didn't they learn anything from satellite radio?
People won't pay for what they used to get for free.

So my wife's aunt married this guy in the military.
He's done tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and this May he got shot in the arm while searching a cave in Afghansitan.

Now that he's home and all healed up, everytime someone gets on his case he's all like, 'Hey, I got shot in the arm'. Or when someone asks him to pass the salt he says, 'I would, if i hadn't gotten shot in the arm'. Today we were throwing wood in for in-laws and he showed up, he said, 'I'd help you but I got shot in the arm'. He does it jokingly but he's still got a pretty good case. I wish I'd get shot in the arm by an enemy of freedom.

so how much media do YOU consume?
Posted by: Goatweed - 12-15-2006, 03:24 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (44)

there's a study out that claims Americans on average will or currently do spend about 10 hours a day consuming media via TV, internet books & magazines. I suppose I fit that mold easily from Monday to Friday at least, since I'm tethered to a PC for most of the day and do some tv/internet at night. I don't do much in the way of magazines tho, since most times the news is outdated my weeks courtesy of the intarweb.
