People you see everyday - But never talk to.
Posted by: Arthur Dent - 08-12-2002, 09:01 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (21)

You know the people I' talking about. The people you see every day on the train, in the elevator of your building, at the laundromat on the same day every week.

You've seen them for years and recognise them on sight anywhere.

Ever think about talking to any of them? After so many years of just seeing them, would it be extra weird to try to start a conversation and introduce yourself?

Common courtesy - Do you have it? do you exercise it?
Posted by: Kid Afrika - 08-12-2002, 08:16 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (40)

There are some subtle little things we can do in our daily lives that are simply a matter of common courtesy. Would you consider yourself a courteous person?

For instance:

If you are in the left lane of a highway and the person behind you wants to go faster than you, do you...?

A. Slam on your brakes.
B. Move to the right to allow him/her to pass.

You are walking into a store as someone else is walking out, do you...?

A. Hold the door and allow them to exit before you enter.
B. Swing the door open and run in before they have a chance to come out.

You are dining with some friends, sitting in the smoking section (nearly extinct) of the restaurant. You finish before they do, and want to have a cigaretter, do you...?

A. Ask if they mind if you smoke while they eat.
B. Light up.

Driving again, you are merging onto a major thoroughfare, do you...?

A. Punch it and give it everything your car has got?
B. Lolligag and flip off people that nearly rear end you?

You are in a discount store, where the person in line before you has unwittingly left behind one of their many bags, when they left the cashier. On your way to your car, you see the same person in the lot, do you...?

A. Inform them that they left a bag at the cashier.
B. Mind your business.

My answers are honestly A. in most situations. On a shite day, they might lean more towards B., but usually A.

  Catching aaron
Posted by: GonzoStyle - 08-12-2002, 07:49 PM - Forum: SportsCenter - Replies (18)

Who do you think has the best chance of breaking the 755 mark set by aaron for career home runs?

Barry is the closest at 600 now but he's 37, Aaron was 42 I believe when he hit 755, or was it 715? Either way does barry have the longevity? He can probably average 40 homers a year for another 4 years but who knows? In 1998 and 1999 McGwire also looked unstoppable but then came along 2001 and that was all.

Sosa is only 33 and is on a streak like no one has ever been on before, he's a machine. Plus he has the biggest shot at staying in the game for the longest amount of time cause he loves the game more than any player I know of. He's averaging 60 homers a year over the last few years. 7 years averaging 45 homers a year and he'll smash the record.

A Rod is the heir apparent to be the best in the game, he's the youngest of the 4. He can easily average 35 - 40 homers a year.

Griffey was the heir apparent several years ago to be the man to break aarons and maris's records one day. He was th fastest to 300 and 400 home runs. He's still young at 33 years old and isn't too far off sammy on the home run list. But the last 2 years have been horrible for junior. he probably won't hit 10 homers this year. He shoulda been past 500 by now. Everyone has a few off years and bounces back only time will tell.

My choice for 755 at this point would be Sammy.

Should i step down...... - Please vote
Posted by: Ken'sPen - 08-12-2002, 07:16 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (108)

Due to the excessive number of Mods,
coupled with my poor board approval rating,
I think it is time I seriously considered stepping down,

But I would like to hear the opinion of the board.
To know what you think.......

Now I know the fact that Gonzo de modded me makes this issue rather pointless,
I was really looking forward to getting voted out,
so lets all pretend and do it anyway.

  Deep philosphical dilemas
Posted by: Galt - 08-12-2002, 04:05 PM - Forum: The Pit - Replies (35)

Here's the situation:

It's pooring cold nasty rain. You drive up in your car (which only has two seats) next to an uncovered bus stop. Peering out your window into the horrible scene outside, you see three people waiting for a bus.

It turns out that one is your best friend, one is the most beatiful woman you've ever seen, and one is a poor old lady who looks to be in really bad shape due to the rain, cold and what-not.

Unknown to them, but known to you, the bus they are waiting for will be greatly delayed because you just passed it a few miles back and it was broken down.

You have a two-seater. What do you do?

edit: yes, I spelled dilemma wrong. And yes, if you are a broad, you can change it to "the most beautiful man you've ever seen"

second edit:
No one has any umbrellas
Your car doesn't have enough gas to make multiple trips.
Don't read too much into this. There's no hidden information. There's no undiscolosed info. You know everything that exists in this little world.
