Unleash hell again? - When are pointless sequels too much?
Posted by: Faceman - 09-24-2002, 02:49 PM - Forum: Entertainment Unlimited - Replies (9)

There is talk about Gladiator 2 coming out in the summer of 2005 with the story taking place 15 years after maximus's death. While sounding pretty good in theory, how many good sequels that don't deal with the characters in the original movie are any good. I can't actually think of any that were, but I can think of 2 that weren't. Jaws 3 and Halloween 3, both having nothing to do with the original characters and both sucking beyond anything I've ever seen. Maybe it will be decent and surprise me though, who knows.

The birth of Islam

Quote:On this day in 622, the prophet Muhammad completes his Hegira, or "flight," from Mecca to Medina to escape persecution. In Medina, Muhammad set about building the followers of his religion--Islam--into an organized community and Arabian power. The Hegira would later mark the beginning (year 1) of the Muslim calendar.

End of Polygamy?

Quote:1890 The Mormon Church officially renounces polygamy
On this day in 1890, faced with the eminent destruction of their church and way of life, Mormon leaders reluctantly issue the "Mormon Manifesto" in which they command all Latter-day Saints to uphold the anti-polygamy laws of the nation. The Mormon leaders had been given little choice: If they did not abandon polygamy they faced federal confiscation of their sacred temples and the revocation of basic civil rights for all Mormons.
Followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had been practicing the doctrine of "plural marriage" since the 1840s.

Always thought it was interesting that the guy could have mutliple wives, but the women could only have one husband.

  Annoying people

I know Gonzo has posted similar topics to this before. About people that need to say hi to you in the hallway at work 10 times a day.

What about those people that you blow off when they talk to you? Or tell them you don't like them. And they continue to say hi? How do you get rid of them?

On the Road: In a short section at the end, Sal and Dean briefly find each other in New York City, but Sal is committed to attend a Duke Ellington concert that night at the Metropolitan Opera with Remi Bencoeur and his girlfriend. He would rather be with Dean, but Remi and his girlfriend don't like Dean, and in the end Sal drives off with his other friends, waving to Dean from the car window. That's about where the book ends.

Especially with how he continued his jokes about shower itme and six million jews kid. I have family who was killed in the holocaust.

Should he stay or go? - It's time to vote someone off the island

I am going to say lock him away,
because:
1. he does not play well with others.
2. he does not contribute much to MOST threads.
3. he is at his funniest when he is getting abused.
4. if he is confined I can enjoy him when I want, and be spared, "this thread sucks" when I don't.

At the demand of several members and on the ok by sean and myself, it's time for a vote. In order to end this, it is in your hands. Does arpi stay or does he get tossed in the cell, for good?

lucas arts has finally decided to make sequels to two of the greatest games ever...

Quote:A CLASSIC RETURNS -- LUCASARTS REVS UP FULL THROTTLE® FOR LONG AWAITED SEQUEL

Acclaimed Classic Adventure Roars Back to Action on Next Generation Consoles and PC in 2003

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- May 21, 2002 -- Full Throttle, one of the most loved classic adventures from LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC, returns in a long awaited action packed sequel for next generation consoles and PC in 2003. The follow up to the award winning game from 1995 will once again feature one of LucasArts' most popular and enduring characters, the swaggering outlaw biker Ben, leader of a renegade motorcycle gang called the Polecats. The free wheeling action-adventure will offer a humorous original story, furious bare knuckle fighting, and the thrill of high speed biking.

"Full Throttle is one of LucasArts' greatest and most beloved original games," says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "We can't think of a better brand or character to lead LucasArts' charge into a new era of original game development. Ben so perfectly symbolizes our legacy and yet has just the right mix of attitude and edge to appeal to a new generation of game players."

Quote:SAM & MAX TO HIT THE ROAD (AND OTHERS) IN LONG AWAITED CLASSIC ADVENTURE SEQUEL FROM LUCASARTS

Popular Madcap Dog and Rabbity Thing to Return for More Hilariously Skewed Adventures First Quarter 2004 on Windows PC

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- August 27, 2002 -- Sam & Max, interactive entertainment's most beloved canine and rabbit combo, hit the road again first quarter 2004 in a long awaited adventure comedy sequel for Windows PC from LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 1993 adventure classic Sam & Max Hit the Road® will dispatch the Freelance Police into a wild world of screwy and vaguely quixotic missions. Each one will be jam packed with nerve-jangling action, brain-busting puzzles, and the kind of easygoing banter one might expect from a talking dog and a naked, hyperkinetic bunny.

Sam & Max are based upon the "Sam & Max Freelance Police" comic book series created by Steve Purcell. LucasArts' Michael Stemmle, co-director of the award-winning original game, will direct the sequel.

"Sam & Max Hit the Road is a classic and as close to being a signature game as any LucasArts has ever done," says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "The Sam & Max sequel, much like the recently announced Full Throttle® II, perfectly complements LucasArts' renowned adventure game legacy and lends further support to the company's commitment to investing in and developing more of our original properties."

OK, I think those were all the nominations.

I made this vote only, so any comments go in the other thread.

Voting closes Thursday. In about 3 weeks we'll start discussing the book.
