Yanks reportedly consider trading Posada for Big Unit

In order to rebuild a starting rotation that failed them in the playoffs, the Yankees have considered dealing All-Star catcher Jorge Posada to the Diamondbacks for ace Randy Johnson according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Citing someone close to organizational meetings in Florida last week, the newspaper reported Tuesday that Posada, who has spent his entire career in pinstripes, came under scrutiny because he is one of the few veteran Yankees whose contract does not include a no-trade clause.

And with $173.15 million already tied up in 16 players for next season, a trade involving Posada may be one of the few ways the organization can afford to shore up its pitching staff.

"It would have to be a major, major deal," the unidentified official told the Star-Ledger. "But Posada does give (the Yankees) some flexibility."

Johnson has one year and $17 million remaining on his contract with Arizona. The team hasn't decided whether to trade their dominant lefty or ink him to an extension.

"You certainly want to look at the ballclub and make sure we have the right mix of veterans and younger players," Ken Kendrick, one Arizona's controlling owners, said at a news conference. "And we certainly hope Randy will be among them. Nobody is able to take his place. I think we all know that."

Another possibility reportedly under discussion was sending Posada to the A's as part of a deal for starter Tim Hudson. That would rid Oakland of the right-hander's $6 million salary for 2005, assuming the team chooses to break up its pitching trifecta of Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito.

A stumbling block to the deal, however, is that Posada is guaranteed $29.5 million in salary over the next two years. That is probably too big a burden for Oakland to shoulder alone. So for Posada to go to the A's, the Yankees would still have to pay a large part of his salary, the Star-Ledger said.

but on a happy note i heard they were looking to wells again. third time's a charm...

NBA season - lets get retarded
Posted by: HedCold - 11-02-2004, 06:00 PM - Forum: SportsCenter - Replies (184)

so the season is finally going to start. the knicks can have a crappy record and still end up as the 3 seed as long as they win the atlantic division. i tihnk thats pretty lame, but whatever. it makes a big deal now who ends up with the first or second seed. the pistons and pacers can have the two best records but end up playing each other in the 2nd round.

then in the west you have kobe with his own team, the mavericks supposedly playing defense, the kings falling apart, the twolves and spurs being similar to what they were last yr, but the spurs will benefit from Brent Barry. he'll give them what they had when stephan jackson was there, just a lot better then stephan jackson was at the time.

you also have lebron trying to get the cavs to the playoffs, i don't see why not. the east is pretty weak besides the top 3 teams. and you have the nuggets and jazz trying to improve on last year.

can't wait!

  washington george!!

I met this older lady today in the elevator and she was one of those annoying types who feel the need to strike up a conversation with every stranger she meets.

So she asks me if I am gonna vote today and I said no. She starts in on asking who, why, when, where. I tell her that I don't support either candidate, if I was forced to choose it'd be Kerry but I don't feel like voting is supposed to be based on a forced to situation.

She tells me that she's not a citizen yet so she can't vote but wishes she could and how WASHINGTON GEORGE!!! died for the country so we could vote and that I should be ashamed of myself.

I told her "listen lady, washington george died from pneumonia and he didn't die so americans can be yelled at by immigrant pollacks, so fuck off!!!"

She had nothing to say and stormed off as we got to the exit.

I have sure been on a roll lately with telling off senior citizens!!!

I kinda felt guilty though and wanted to go do my duty and vote but then I decided on getting an iced coffee instead.

This documentary was on IFC last night; they follow James Carville and George Stepanopolous (however you spell his name) on Governor Clinton's campaign. Pretty cool movie; Carville is the best part of it; he's just so fucking crazy and energetic. Plus, George looks and acts like how Rob Lowe acted on The West Wing.

I want to read some sites of violently political people after the election to see them whine and complain.

So if Bush wins, I want to read michaelmoore.com and listen to Stern
if Kerry wins, I want to read Rushlimbaugh.com, the Hannity/Colmbs forums etc.

Where are some really partisan sites I can read articles where people of either party will act like the world is over because thier candidate lost?
