Leiter's the man, and he's carrying the pitching staff. Congrats Leiter.

1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year
2. Hate the Braves with a passion
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
4. Mets win World Series

That is a pretty fucking unbelieveable feat. Pitching every fifth day and getting a win against every team seems almost impossible but I guess with interleauge it is easier.

Interleague doesnt really matter much. What helps him is that he has pitched in both leagues and has pitched for a long period of time.

Not a definite, but Valentine thought it was a good possibility that Braves had injury insurance on Surhoff's contract.

As for Leiter's wins vs 30 teams, keep in mind that 2 of the pitchers with wins vs 29 teams (Randy Johnson and I think Kevin Brown) are only missing wins vs. their current teams -

That was a great game last night. The Mets are gaining confidence by the game. They just have to be consistent, this streak should be repeated often. Estes gets the start tonight. I like Estes, I hope he can get things going good for himself. Tonight would be perfect timing! Let's Go Mets...

5. Have Red Sox miss the playoffs yet finish 10 games in front of the Yankees

True in Randy Johnson's case, not so for Kevin Brown. The one team Kevin Brown has not beat is the Devil Rays. And he could get an oppurtunity to do that when the Dodgers play the Devil Rays June 10-12.

Well boys, the Mets lost tonight in Arizona by a 7-3 score. I wasn't able to catch the game tonight so I have no ideas as to what happened. On to Houston now.

Estes just didnt have it tonight. What can you do? you cant win them all.

My beef with tonight is Timo Perez. I like Timo, but he proved tonight that he can not hit in the #2 hole when he swings at everything. His job is to get on base at any means necessary when Vaughn, Piazza, and Alfonzo are following him.

2 examples here.

In the middle of the game with the Mets down 3-1, The Mets had 1st and 2nd with 1 out and Timo had a 3-1 count. He swings at a ball at his ankles and pops out to right. If he takes the pitch and walks you have bases loaded with 1 out and Vaughn and Piazza coming up, instead 1st and 2nd with 2 out.

And then in the 9th, with the Mets down 4, and 2 on. if Timo gets on then Vaughn will be the tying run coming up. Kim throws the first pitch for a strike, the rest of the pitches he threw, not one of them was near the strikezone, Timo swung at every one of them except one, and after a couple of foul balls, he grounds out.

Not smart baseball.

I agree about Timo.

I also don't like bunching the lefties.

If they are going to lead off Alomar, maybe it's time to hit Alfonzo 2nd again. He seems back to swinging for average, but his power is way down. He is among smartest of mets hitters.

I guess Valentine reads this message board :-D

Mets putting together another good game - only runs scored by Astros came on 2 Bagwell HRs; 5-6-7 for Mets (Burnitz (3-4,HR, 2 RBI), Valentin(3-4 2 2B,HR,4RBI), Payton (2-5,2HR,3RBI).

Valentin made error, but his offense looks awfully good at SS.

Again, Bullpen looks sharp, especially Strickland (not even talking about Benitez).

Alomar seems to have wanted to end the game in fashion.

Good win by the Mets last night. Just about clicking on all cylinders right now as we continue this series against Houston.

Tonight's game will be tough, as my boy D'Amico takes on a tough young kid in Hernandez. If D'Amico gets that curve over consistently tonight, the Astros might get shut out tonight.

The Mets are rolling along well right now. The Braves lost earlier on this afternoon to the Cards, that's always good. D'Amico can get us a big win tonight. Piazza, Burnitz, and Alomar are just hammering the ball lately! It's time for another squash in Houston...

Don't ask stupid questions Rusty. You know every Met fan would love to see the Braves with a losing record.

BTW, not a good start to the game so far. 2 runs in the first inning isn't good but the Mets are known for their comebacks. There's still alot of time left....

How pathetic is it that D'Amico goes from 1st to 3rd on a single to center, but Vaughn can't get to 3rd on a single to right? (both with 2 out mind you) Damn, and I thought Robin Ventura was slow...

Pretty good 5th optional objective Rusty.

Tough loss tonight, that Hernandez can really pitch. And yes, that is pathetic that Vaughn runs slower than D'Amico around the bases.

Cluster, you make yourself look like a school teacher :-P

That was a tough break, it definetley slowed down the momentum of this team. We have one more game with the Astros before we go on a Western Road Trip which I hope we can build up a new streak. Tomorrow it's Leiter and Oswalt.

What do you think we are on now?

Unless Shea Stadium is on the West Coast, that is not to be. The Mets have off on Monday before returning to Shea to face the Giants then the Rockies.
