The way the Braves are playing, they may need to win 110 games to win the Division. That fuckin team never god damn loses. Its sickening.

And catching Arizona for the Wildcard wont be any picnic either. The Mets have put themselves in a position where they need to play at least .750 ball the rest of the way to have a shot.

that means 2 out of 3 does not get it done. Sweep a Fuckin Series for once. They have one sweep the whole year.

At this stage Phillips better be looking long term.
If he can make moves to get younger -like he did last year this time by trading Reed, Wendell, Pratt, etc then he should do it. Of course I don't think there is anyone that he can really deal, unless someone wants Trachsel or Weathers.

What he shouldn't do is give up more young talent to make a run this year. I think Alomar will turn it around, but I didn't want to give up Traber.

Where the Mets need to emulate the Yankees is by building the farm system.

Vaughn just makes me sick sometimes. Burnitz may suck, but at least he hustles like crazy and plays defense. It seemed like Vaughn took 9 strikes for those 3 k's last night.

2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (modified version)(You gotta try and believe....)
1.Hate the Braves with PASSION and extreme prejudice
1a. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play
2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
3a.Have team understand it is OK to get a hit with runners on base.
4. Mets win World Series (after divine intervention)

I dont care. We didnt bring him in here to hustle and play good defense. He's here to hit. And he is beyond awful. I would like to see him hustle himself to the bench because thats where he belongs.

Memo to Bobby: PLAY TIMO EVERY GOD DAMN DAY!. I dont care if a lefty is pitching. If Vaughn and Burnitz can hit against lefties, well then a guy who's average is almost better than both of those guys combined, should be playing.

Nice win last night! That huge inning won it for us, Leiter pitched well enough to get the win but what can you do? Timo had a good game and FB is right, play Timo more often if not all the time... Burnitz licks choda now.

Only important games now, we have to win LOTS of them to even get into contention.

Man, I wish the Mets could wear those winning jerseys everyday! Vaughn has 8 HRs in his last 17 games (I think) And maybe he will continue that streak with all the trade rumors flying around. Leiter has another solid start like he usually does and we pick up a win. Maybe we'll actually stay above .500 for a while.... I smell a new objective coming.

Negative:These wins were against horrible Phillies & Fish
Positive: still many more games against horrible Phillies & Fish.

Positive: Hitting coming around (finally)
Negative: Pitching beginning to suck, except for the soft tossing rookie.

Let's see where we are next week.

I hear that they are thinking about bringing Trachsel back up to make the start on Saturday Night if he is ready, so he will replace Bacsik.

If Valentine does that, that would be even stupider than having a Hit and Run with Mo Vaughn up with 2 strikes and Mike Piazza on the bases.

Bacsik has to stay in that rotation until he proves he doesnt belong. You want to bring up Trachsel, then they better bench either Estes or D'Amico, who both have been dreadful lately.

I think they will go 6 deep for a little while. I didn't hear Basick going out.

I just logged on for the first time in a loonnnnnnnnnngggg time and proudly realized that I was named as a member of the 2002 crack committee... thank you, thank you.

It's been a very rough season to date. This 3 game mini streak means nothing if they cant topple Ohka and Colon in the next two days.

Promise: If the mets are out of it by 7/31, I am officially becoming a Montreal Expos supporter, in hopes they stick it to two people I cant stomach... Bobby Cox and Bud Selig.

Hope everyone's been doing good.

Just another observation of insanity.

What up DiamondDust??

The Mets open up a crutial series with the Expos... This is for second place in the division. The Expos are only 7 back of the Dodgers so if the Mets can beat the Expos 2 times they could catch up to a struggling Dodgers team. You have to believe don't you?

They cant afford to go 6 deep. They need Leiter and Astacio to be out there as often as possible. And you cant have 2/3rds of the rotation consisting of an unproven rookie, 2 mediocre veterans, and a underachiveing guy not used to pitching this many innings.
