13-4 in the bottom of the 8th right now. I'm not even going to watch the rest of it. If they blow this lead I don't know what I'll do. Atleast the offense stepped it up again. Trachsel has lots of run support so he's more relaxed. Pete, I guess they were carfeul, 2 (they better win) of a possible 4 already!

Nice triple play!! :)

Looks like we are gonna be a better road team than home team this year. I guess that makes sense, since a lot of these guys werent here last year. Time for another win tomorrow.

And what do you know, a 1-2-3 inning for Benitez in the 8th :)

Thank god for Sportscenter; I went to bed after the 4th & missed it;

Interesting thing about the Triple Play (the 9th in team history and 1st since 1998) Is it almost looked routine.

Padres looking awful, with 5 errors, but I could care less - Mets starting to put it together. Piazza's slam (which included RBI 1,000 ) nice touch.

Whoda thunk after a god awful homestand they would win 4 outa five on the left coast, with the only loss being a winnable 13 inning affair?

Also good that other NL East teams showing their awful sides. Mets now won 4 in a row, Atlanta won 3, but Fla lost 3, Montreal lost 5 and Phillies lost 5. Maybe the NL east will wind up the way it usually does (hopefully with one big exception) :-D :-D

You left out one thing. Who's in 1st Place all by themselves? that would be your New York Mets.

Just imagine how far they would be ahead right now if they were playing up to their potential.

Mets win again out in San Diego. This time the final was 5-2. Estes took a couple of shots off of his body, but still pitched well. The offense seems to be getting its act together. Mets go for the 4-game sweep tomorrow afternoon.

With Astacio on the hill tomorrow, i am very confident that we can sweep the Padres, and win 6 in a row overall. Another 5 or 6 run game by our offense and i'll be happy :).

I didn't catch the entire game last night, but the one thing I noticed is that even when they make outs, the Mets are starting to look better at the plate. They seem a bit more relaxed and seem to be getting better swings on the balls even though they weren't all falling in.

Unlike last year, this year I have a lot of hope for the Metsies. Mets start season with a lot of talent, but a lot of question marks. Mets have added a lot of fire power, if:
1) Vaughn rebounds to his Red Sox days
2) Alfonzo rebounds from his back injury and plays like 1999/2000
3) Ordonez really has learned a little plate discipline, can hit like he did at end of season, and has learned not to swing at that pitch at his eyes
4) Payton finally has injury free season and plays up to his ability
5) Cedeno plays the way he did for Mets in 1999, and not necessarily like he did for Tigers in 2001
6) Burnitz feels comfortable since he isn't required to be the big bopper (yeah, I know Sexton was the real bopper for Brewers) and hits like he did in 1999

Heres an excerpt from the very first post in this thread by PD. Interesting how none of these six things have happened, yet on May 19 the Mets are in 1st place by 2 games. The only one of the 6 thats close to being a yes, is Alfonzo, and although he is hitting for a good average, he still has 0 Homeruns and 10 RBI's and although he has vastly improved from last year, he is still not at the point he was in 99 and 2000.

I don't really care what anybody said before the season started. Our whole division is weak and we should be on top by a lot more than we are! That was scary when Estes got hit with the ball 2 times. It could have led to something serious but luckily it didn't. Astacio is on the mound tonight, should be a fun game to watch. :)

Yup FB, none of those things have happened yet.
what I didn't anticipate is that the bullpen has been super, and that the rest of the division would be so mediocre.

Cedeno is playing better on west coast; if he can bring it home there is something to look forward to.

Ed Coleman was Interesting before todays game. He wondered which was the real Alfonzo; ie was the 20+ Hrs for 2 seasons a fluke, and whether he really should project to 15-20 in a normal season.

Todays game comes under the category of "can't win em all". Astascio didn't have best stuff, but kept em down most of the game. Bullpen (Guthrie & Strickland) couldn't quite hold the lead, and offense only put across runs in 1 inning. Next stop Philadelphia, where Phillies can actually play ball.

Now, to the game, how many fucking mistakes on the basepaths are we gonna make before we start to get it? Leiter just didnt have it, but comeon already, lets help him out for once on offense guys.

Who cares about your Phillies? Just concentrate on getting back to .500... It was a bad start that hurt us, and that's the way it has been most of the year. We've been relying on comebacks but this time it didn't work out. Time to rebound tomorrow and get an early lead dammit!!

Jay Payton is officialy the stupidest player in Baseball. How do you get thrown out at 3rd before the guy scores at the plate. They should just release that bum. Looks like Payton has earned himself back to the bench for another week and thank god for that.

I was going to say that until I noticed Payton got 3 hits. I can't figure this guy out. Great hitter in college & Minors. Spent his year off with injury to learn to play good defense; and yet he makes some of the stupidest plays - swinging at breaking balls in dirt, throwing past cutoff, getting thrown out on bases despite his speed. Can't Mookie Wilson get this guy to learn anything?

When Valentine first took over as manager the team spent Spring training doing all sorts of drills and team was fundamentally sound. This team is the complete opposite. Maybe the team missing Cookie Rojas. I just don't know.

The Mets are making way too many mental mistakes. You never make the last out of an inning at 3rd base. That cost them a run because Burnitz doesn't exactly have any wheels. Afternoon game today from Philly hopefully this will be a 6-4 road trip instead of a 5-5 trip.

He also sucks. Hes hitting .203 but somehow he has escaped criticism. Does he have a hit in May yet? He cant have more than a handful. When he makes contact its considered a good at bat. We would have been better off with Agbayani, the way he's playing.

1-0, very close game. The Mets' bats were doing jackshit, we're lucky we were playing Philly! Mark Johnson came through in the clutch. The offense is just pissing me off, we have so much talent yet we only score 1 run with Mark Johnson?! When we have Burnitz, Vaughn, Piazza all in one lineup! Our pitching is keeping us in this, hats off to our rotation! We got an important series wit the Marlins next, Estes is up. Lets get a win for him with more than just 1 run....

Well, I turn on the game and not only are the Mets losing, they have no hits in the 5th.
When the hell are they going to snap out of this offensive funk? September?

Ok, who get's the hit and RBI? Rey Ordonez.
still not a good sign when he is the one you are relying on to drive in runs.
