2-2 so far this afternoon. Nice win yesterday. We need guys to hit in the clutch like Joey did. At the same time we need to get a lead early so we don't have to rely on clutch hits...

BTW: Cluster I sent you an email about a sig pic, see if you like it. Email me back...

That was a tough game to swallow today. Traschel pitched a good enough game to win against anyone today, and of course, BAD DEFENSE cost us. Losing in 13 really hurts, but hopefully we can learn something from that and kick some ass on the west coast.

And Rage, thanks a lot bro. That sig totally kicks ass. I emailed you back.

Close game last night, could have gone both ways. Trachsel will always be a homo but he played alright yesterday. Defense is killing us again...Tonight we got the Dodgers, maybe Estes could get a win for a change...

Hopefully tonight Estes pitches like he did against the Brewers tonight, and our defense finally decides to show up.

Who the fuck cares about the defense, how about the god damn offense. Another shitty performance by these guys.

Right now I would just settle for Jeromy Burnitz to make contact with the ball. he doesnt even have to get a hit, just make fuckin contact. Im sick of him striking out every time. Im sick of Mo Vaughn doing nothing. im sick of Alfonzo having No Homeruns. Im sick of Cedeno who cant buy a hit. Im sick of Jay Payton hitting .100 for his career with the bases loaded.

They are pissing me off big time right now. This shit has to stop and now.

You mean your not thrilled by a .240 BA, .308 OBA, and .362 slg? to parphrase Norton, "They Stink".

Hitting can cover for a multitude of sins (as long as the rest of the team is OK - see Texas, etc.) It's bad enough guys like Burnitz are missing, but Alomar is way below career, Cedeno can't get out of his own way, Alfonzo is getting on base but has no power.

It's more like they suck right now. Have lost 8 of their last 9, and lose yet again in extras is getting annoying. The whole damn team is in a slump.

Id have to say that tonight is a game that they pretty much NEED to have (i wont say MUST-win because its too early, but its pretty damn close). Especially since tomorrow they are going against Ishii, which probably wont be pretty. I dont wanna lose 10 out of 11, 9 of 11 sounds better lol.

Both sound brutal Cluster. Anything with the second number bigger than the first sounds bad. We need to win and snap that streak! Not only that we need to get a huge win streak like we had a little while ago. Tough loss last night, and the Marlins are on top of our division, followed by the Expos. We need a streak of wins, or atleast not huge losing streaks. Consistency will be key in the rest of the year...

Mets win tonight 3-0. Astacio complete game two hitter. Looks like Cendeno is starting to perform as he went yard and had a double tonight. Tonight's a start. Let's see if they can make it two in a row tomorrow night.

Astacio's performance tonight may have been the best pitching performance Ive ever seen a Met throw. He had the Dodgers fooled all night and his breaking ball was amazing. And he did when the Mets badly needed it.

Astacio has been by far the Mets MVP so far. They still arent hitting, but hopefully they come out of that shell soon.

As usual Trombone, your post brings nothing to the table.

John Valentin is heading to the DL with a shoulder problem, that could haunt him the rest of the season if it doesnt heal properly.

Unbelievable pitching performance by Astacio last night. He is really showing off the potential that hes always had, and the grittyness that he developed pitching in hell (Colorado). More runs wouldve been nice, but we won, so its good.

Tough one tonight, Ishii is the man so far.

Before the season, everyone (I know not EVERYONE, but you know what I mean) was complaining that the team would rack up the offense and have no pitching. 1-1/2 mos into the season we see that this isn't so. Pitching has been incredibly solid. Astascio looks like the solid #2 starter Mets will need if they make it to post season.

Good sign - Cedeno has shown a little life in LA - let's see if it continues, or if it is just his little F-U to the team that gave up on him.

Was Valentin officially put on D/L yet? I heard varying reports as to whether he will rest it, go on D/L for rest, or get surgery.

Ty Wiggington has been doing well in Norfolk, but putting a rookie on the bench isn't the best situation.

Are you shitting me???? Astacio and D'Amico pitch back to back complete game 2 hit shutouts. The last time the Mets pitched back to back shutouts was 1992 when David Cone and Bret Saberhagen did it. Mets beat the Dodgers last night 2-0. Mo hit his 3rd homer of the season. Offense is still not producing they way it is supposed to, but I'll take the win. Off to San Diego now.

Some selected quotes from before the season.
PD-
quote:

(If) Astascio stays healthy. A solid #2 starter IF that shoulder tear really is unimportant as Mets keep saying.

FB-
quote:

This Pitching staff is improved from last year

CF-
quote:

Look for D'Amico to have a 15 or 16 win season

Another stellar pitching performance, although remember the Dodgers are just like the Mets this year - good pitching, underachieving hitting, hit into too many double plays. At least Vaughn hit one out.

on a different topic, I watched the game last night. Keith Hernandez is interesting as an announcer. Not much polish, but when he gets into the technical points, he really shows me something. I loved the way he showed how Ishii tips his slow curve (not that it seems to help anyone hit it).

Also, all Met fans should visit the official site
NY Mets official site ; you will find there opportunity to vote for "All-Amazin Team". this list reinforces that historically the Mets have had good pitchers, good catchers, and not enough good outfielders

Wow, that is the word to describe the last 2 days pitching wise. Astacio and D'Amico are doing unbelievable so far this year. It would be nice if the Mets got more runs, but i didnt expect much this series against the pitching happy Dodgers.

BTW, thanks for the reference Pete on that D'Amico thing, i really think he can do well this year.

We got the Padres up now. Leiter gets the start, against Lawrence of the Padres. Great couple of games vs. the Dodgers. Astacio was amazing and D-Amico was great too, despite the offense not giving them much support... The Padres have a similar record to the Mets, I'm not expecting a squash but I'm sure the Mets are capable of taking 3 of 4 from San Diego.

Just be careful:
2000 - Mets 2-4 at SD
2001 - Mets 0-3 at SD

And I think this season Padres something like 14-4 at home. Luckily I think Neven is injured

PeterDragon your right the Padres are 14-4 at home this year. The Padres are so for overachieving while the Mets are underachieving. Hopefully, the Mets will do better out in San Diego than the last 2 years. We'll just have to wait and see.

The Padres always overachieve. Gotta win tonight though with Leiter going and Nevin, Klesko and Kotsay out of the lineup. 1-1 after 3 on surprise! - An unearned run. Should have been Alfonzo's error, but so what?

Mets beat the Padres last night 3-1. Leiter pitched 6 innings giving up just one unearned run and comtributed to the offense with rbi single which still has me in shock.

Another low scoring affair over in San Diego. Leiter had a great game, going 6 innings and smacking home a run, Cedeno had one and so did Vaughn. If it's not the defense then its the offense that is underachieving. Sure you can show me all those BA, SLG stats but what the Mets really need is some runs. Tonight Trachsel has the start....
