Well they're into the bullpen now, so there's no more 'Beckett was on' excuses for the no offense...

2 walks in the 7th and still can't get a run.

Well, Jeremy Burnitz just bought himself a month of me not picking on him.

Of course, it just goes to show how poor the Marlins bullpen is, but I'll pretend it is Mets picking up their hitting.

(and of course Cedeno's double should have been caught, but we won't mention that)

Also listening to the game, Shea is rockin, and was earlier in the game, even though they were down. That's what I like to hear.

I want Mike Tyson to fuck Benitez repeatedly in his ass until he learns how to get a save after the team fights its ass off to get in a position to win the game.

This happens too fucking much, where the Mets are down by a lot, then they somehow come back, and then Benitez ends up blowing it in the 9th. Ive had enough of this assclown.

Yeah that was some offensive explosion in the 10th. 4 walks and a sac bunt from the cleanup hitter. (which was a good move though)

Bullpen continues to be solid (as long as it's not the 9th, obviously)

In Benitez' defense, it was only his first blown save this season. It happens to the best of em. Still, he hasn't exactly been stellar this year. But I'll take a blown save now if it means he'll actually convert come September and October.

And god damn, did Beckett have some nasty stuff or what? This kid's gonna have some career, just not with Florida.

Nice to see Burnitz finally knock one out of the park. Of course, that's what he's paid to do, and he doesn't do it nearly enough.

And will this offense EVER start clicking on all cylinders? The pitching, for the most part, has been spectacular and has carried the team through the first 2 months, but it's not going to last all year. The bats really need to heat up for there to be any hope for a championship.

A win is a win is a win...

That's what you're going to get with Benitez. He relies on a 95+ fastball that's kinda straight and a split finger that's usually out of the strikezone. If he falls behind, or gets bad location, Major league hitters will hit it occasionally, and when they do it goes far. Relief pitchers that have more movement can get away with more. For Benitez to be on he has to get ahead in the count and throw pitches just outside - when he falls behind and they look for the fastball it's tough.

He does convert a high percentage - its just that his blown saves usually come as a result of Hrs that frustrate fans.

He's still probably the 5th or 6th best in the majors, despite his flaws.

Ok, is it now safe to say that Mo Vaughn and Roberto Alomar are the biggest free agent busts in the entire league so far this year? Alomar was horrible yet again today, and its about time the fans started booing his ass. The man has Cedeno on 1st in a 1run game with 1 out, and he swings on the 1st pitch! Plus, another error for booting a ball doesnt help either.

As for Mo, how can you not know that a runner is trying to score from 3rd like that? That was horrendous. Plus, as I heard on the FAN, he has 7 extra-base hits ALL YEAR!!! Pathetic.

Horrible game today, and hopefully these 2 guys can wake up and realize that they are expected to do much more than this.

On a somewhat good note, Astacio proved why he is the man today, constantly getting out of jams. Hopefully D'Amico will throw a gem tomorrow.

Mets will be facing AJ Burnett; somehow I think there might be a no-hitter, but it might not be for the home team....

Benitez is a piece of shit! It's worse enough it was on Tim Raines too! I wish Johny Franco could be in the lineup for us, I bet he could get 3 outs for us... Atleast we won the game, but I'd rather have a good solid win than a nail-biter game.

Well the bottom part of the lineup continues to be (relatively) productive, but you're just not going to win when you're 2-3 batters go 1-10. Alfonzo's not driving in runs, but that's because he's usually hitting behind Alomar, Vaughn, and even Piazza, who's also done nothing in May. The only positive in the lineup lately has been Payton.

I know how much Valentine likes using the whole roster, but I would like to see him go a week using the same lineup. It's obvious that switching players/lineups every day is not helping anybody out of their slumps. Maybe some consistancy will bring about some..well, consistancy. (odd, I recall thinking this same thing last year...)

I don't think they played a shitty game, it was close. They finally exploded early, but in true Mets fashion they blew it in the last couple innings. Astacio got tatooed for 12 hits and had one of his worst nights as a Met! It doesn't help that it's the Marlins who are 1 game behind us (so are those fuckers from Atlanta). Pitching isn't a problem this year, I'm surprised I'm saying this but it's actually the Offense that needs to step up. D'Amico gets the nod tomorrow, or should I say today...

The offense has been offensive of late. Guys that we are paying a lot of money to aren't doing a damn thing. They also lead the majors in errors as well which is just sickening. They won't stay in 1st place if this continues all season long.

Good win today, pitching was good, Offense looking better. It was just a great day to play on (cause it's my birthday). That's an important win we just got, I think the Braves won today so we're still 1 up on them and 2 on the Fish...

Happy birthday to both Rage and Trombone as D'Amico throws a gem, just like he is supposed to. He is the man. These errors are killing me though. 49 errors through 50 games? Pathetic.

Well, first lets get this out of the way -since you've been fishing for it ;)

Happy Birthday Rage & trombone.

Now the game...
CF - you called it. D'Amico threw a completely professional game. Got the popout on Charles Johnson when he needed it (for example).

The Defense wasn't as bad as it seemed. 1st error was McEwing on a ball that ate him up, and then he tried a to make a big play and threw it away. Since he's just fillin in, I can deal with it. The 2nd was a Piazza throwing error on a stolen base, where ball was back towards 1st base side of 2nd base, and Alomar(?)had to jump over the sliding runner. Those errors suck, but I can deal with them better than when Ordonez, Alomar, or Alfonzo make them.

Burnitz made a great play robbing Floyd. A quicker player might have made it easier, but he ran back to the wall, got twisted up, back handed the ball, crashed into the wall, and held up the ball while on the seat of his pants. A web gem I'm sure.
Alomar made a very good play ranging to his right to get a ball over 2nd, and whip a throw around to just nip Luis Castillo; Castillo returned the favor late in the game in a similar play, except Alomar would have beat the play if he didn't do that idiotic slide into 1st base. I hate that god damned stupid play - you should never slide into 1st.

Piazza had been 0-10 vs Burnett, but doubled in 1st driving in 1st runs (and singled later). Vaughn hit the ball hard, got 2 singles out of it. Mets showed some patience vs Burnett in opening inning and it paid off; later he started getting his curve over and dominated.

Pen did the job once more - Guthrie with 3 k's(2 vs righties) and Strickland to close the door.

Nice enjoyable time.

Well, I am finally making it to my first game to see Steve "The human rain delay" Trachsel. I will probably get home at 1 a.m. Fucking Alomar better start hitting. I picked up that piece of shit in the first round of fantasy baseball. Can the fucking guy hit lefthanded pitching? Maybe he should stay on the left side against lefty's.

I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker!

Horrible game with many missed chances yesterday. Of course, it doesnt help when the other team goes 7 for 7 in Stolen Bases. At least i got to hear Tom Seaver actually admit that he did something wrong in his career (he said he had an awful move to first and second to hold runners on). Alomar is really getting me upset, but i wont quit on him yet.

Should be a good game tonight, i have a feeling that Traschel will do well tonight.

BTW...mother shucker, join the committee if you want to. :) Have fun at the game.

Went to the game tonight, and once again Valentine left Trachsel in a little too long. The bullpen did exactly do the job either by giving up a run in both the seventh and eighth innings. Mo is really getting on my nerves. He did make a nice play defensively, but at the plate he is horrible. Tonight he was 1 for 4 2 K's and a Double Play in the ninth which all but ended the Mets chances of coming back. Also, the Mets should be able to beat a team like the Phillies that was 4-21 on the road entering last night's game.

Its starting to be not fun watching our games anymore. Blowing leads, not hitting in the clutch...this sucks right now. Its only a matter of time where the starters get tired of throwing good games with no reward from the offense.

Oh, im also tired of everyone saying that Alomar, Vaughn, Burnitz, and Piazza are guaranteed to do better. Thats not a given, they better be fucking working to get better, and not assume that it will just come to them.

Sorry for the rant, but when we play like shit consistently, something has to be said. Plus, we are no longer in first, so there's no more excuses for bad play.

Astacio has been quite nice. Thanks for asking. Cedeno hasnt been so great.

But I bet you were talking about Alomar, Vaughn, and Burnitz right. Who the Mets got in trades. They werent free agents. But you knew that right.
